Get off at the Hauptbahnhof stop and follow the signs to the "S-Bahn". You will NOT have to go all the way to the surface. The signs look like green circles with a white "S" in the middle. One direction is "Marienplatz" (or follow the directions to the airplane - the airport is in the same direction at this point). There's a train along about every 2 or 3 minutes. Take one toward "Marienplatz" and get off at the second stop (first stop is "Karlsplatz/Stachus"). Come up to the surface. Voila.
I'll leave a map for you at the hotel.
You would have to depart your hotel around 10:30 to be sure to make it before the Glockenspiel show starts. Alternatively, I can come back to the hotel about 11:40 and we can go together to the restaurant. If you're not going to make it to Marienplatz before 11:15, give me a call on my cell phone 0170-560-6975 so we can work out where to meet.
Edited to add: For those of you staying at the Marriott Renaissance, take U-6 (ask at the desk and they'll direct you to the subway stop) and go in the direction of "Klinikum Grohadern" (to the left as you come down the stairs). That will take you directly to Marienplatz, sixth stop (I think) from where you get on at Nordfriedhof (North Cemetery).
And one last thing - if you're planning on seeing the sights, it might make sense to buy a "tageskarte innenraum" ticket from the U-bahn ticket machine. Not sure what it runs, but I think it's about about 5 or 6 euro. It allows you unlimited trips in the central area for the day.

We had a great get-together! Glockenspiel, Hofbruhaus, Hacker Bru from wooden kegs, Nrnbergerwurstchen, Valentin museum, Haxen, good company, and great conversation.
More detail later, and maybe pictures.
Freddy Jr. also had a great time.

That is not to say SDF is Freddie Jr.'s home, BTW.
He's just back in the USA, eagerly awaiting his next trip.

It was really nice to see some familiar faces again as well as to get to know some "new" FlyerTalkers. Too bad I had to leave so early, but I'm sure there'll be more meetings / "Do"s.

Can only agree, it had been saturday a wonderful time and we managed to get a total of 5 different breweries done! Plus some fun at the Valentins Museum and everywhere inbetween.
I also had been fortunate to have been able to enjoy a beautiful day in the alps with TxLobo skiing on last weeks fresh snow.... though he now has probably enough snow for another TX winter.
And no...we didnt get miles for the car ride to the mountains..but found some things to be charged to CC for miles

It was nice to meet everyone. I went to the toilet in case you think that I suddenly disappeared.
I did a rushed brew house tour on Sunday and my vote for favorite beer all categories goes to Augustiner Dunkel.
p.s. Spiff, you are lucky that you flew intra-Europe from MUC. Their US bound security made the TSA look good.

Man, I wish I'd checked here before I left. I was in MUC on Feb. 1, but I didn't get in until about 20:30 because of all the delays at LHR. I left the following morning back to SFO. I'll keep an eye out here from now on.

I had a great time meeting everyone in Munich. I had an interesting drive back from the Bodensee - got to stand outside of my car on the A9 autobahn for awhile. Not sure what happened, someone said that a tree had fallen across the highway. Also, made a little stop in one of my favorite spots, Ottobeuren. they have a spectacular church there. The interior is incredible.
