Can you put me in as a 'very likely'. Thanks.

I just made reservations. I'm looking forward to the event - especially after my first event in DUS this year.

Bernie, put me down as very likely http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

bernie: please confirm my attendance. I just finalised my booking with BA so all I need now is to book my hotel (suggestions?)

North American BA travelers: if you are planning to book award travel on Club World to DUS, better book now! I had a heck of a time getting convenient flights today (and they were just available last night!). YUL is closed (or award inventory not yet allotted). Very limited availability from BOS, JFK, and ORD. I ended up booking out of EWR. As you might have guessed, the flights to LHR is the problem. LHR-DUS still has a lot of availability on Club Europe.

Most of the attendees IIRC for the first two DUS DO's have stayed at The Nikko. Very central, and very close to Chez Bernie, and Joh and I will stay there this time too for sure. Nearly everything to do at DUS can be walked. Other brand Hotels like Hilton are just way inconveniently located IMO. Bernie has got us a very good group rate in the past, and I feel sure he will once again and advise! Nikko also gives AA points per stay. (Eventually!)

'nuther nod for the Nikko ... an AA partner and just a darn great property. You'll really feel pampered and welcomed. It's a real gem.

Thanks for the heads up ozstamps and essxjay. I do hope that we could get a group rate. Rates right now are a bit pricey so i held off on booking the hotel. Do yall know if the Four Points is in a convenient location? Thanks.

essxjay Aug 8, 2002 3:48 pm

Dunno about the convenience/location factor or the Four Points. But E-mail Bernie directly ... he'll know for sure.

Well ... you all are "confirmed" already - remember: there is a 250$ cxl fee http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

As for hotels: I'll sure wait way into next year before I contact any of the hotels in the city center for any kind of group rate b/c this will be a summer weekend and there will be summer promos for sure - and our rate should be lower than those promos are. And I'd need a more accurate number of rooms needed and I'm sure we will get there by March / April next year.

The Nikko still will be first choice (as it was the last DUS events), but I'll once again try to get a good deal at Steigenberger's Park Hotel. The Four Points is located in the area of the former Düsseldorf Port - quite a hip location, but as the Hilton and Radisson not in city center.

Please add me as a confirmed. Anyone in the UK fancy making a road trip of it? I will be taking a Landrover Discovery with me, to take advantage of some of the autobahns and their lack of speed limit.

You will not earn any miles, but you will be provided with better meals than flying from the UK. Space for three is available if interested.

Wouldn't a Jag be a more appropriate car for this purpose? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

Joh and I drove from AMS to the Feb Dus #2 Matthew, and you are sure right about the roads in that part of the world. She had a new VW something and in Germany this Posche went past us like a missile and she was doing 150K. That thing was doing at least 300K (180 mph) I imagine. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif
