Hot Coffee (any Beverage) allowed thru TSA Checkpoint

This is pre-TSA, but going thru security at SFO Intl in August, my stepdaughter was not allowed to hand carry one of those little mini-pizzas in a box (about the size of the Pizza Hut personal) thru. So, we laid it inside one of our carryons, took it thru security, and then removed it for her to eat.
