Photo Hosting
I'm sure by now a lot of you have seen the photos that I put online of FT events...
http://www.lug.udel.edu/~mark/gallery/ft
Several people have asled me the software that I use to do that. It's called Gallery, and it runs on any webserver (unix anyway, haven't tried windows) with PHP and a few image tools. It's VERY easy to set up and maintain and upload pics, etc. It also supports multiple users, captions, comments, etc.
Of course I don't imagine most FTers have the knowledge/server/bandwidth to host their own pictures (and believe me, it uses a LOT of bandwidth). Which leads me to the following...
I'd be willing to set up another copy of the software, and give out accounts to anyone on FT that would like to post pictures. However, there are a few caveats:[*]I ask that you be a registered FTer with more than 25 posts.[*]I ask that you use it for FT related photos only (I'm negotiable on what is FT related: FT events, airplane pics, and such would all be acceptable)[*]I ask that you keep it PG-13 or thereabout: no nudity, offensive captions etc[*]I ask that you keep your pictures to a resonable number, and don't be a bandwidth hog.[*]I reserve the right to edit/delete photos/captions/comments that I deem inappropriate, and delete the account of repeat offenders.
Before I set this up, I'd like to gauge interest, so please reply to this thread if you are interested. If there's enough interest to warrant me investing the time and resources, I will set up a "contract" (basically all of the above) and start handing out accounts.
Any feedback, questions, or concerns, post here or email me. Thanks!

Mark,
After all the trouble that I went through this afternoon trying to link photos to my Yahoo account, let me be first in line.

(fortunately ScottC came to my rescue)

Mark -
A while back I went to Gallery and couldn't even figure out where to download the software! I sent on the site link onto a more computer literate friend of mine and he said he would try to use it, but there was some issue of security with using it on his business-backed site. I'm not sure what he meant, but it may be a consideration as to why someone may be better off to take you up on your offer.
As for Yahoo, I don't have a problem with it anymore, and the only thing I don't like about it is that it doesn't show the number of views and you have to be a member of Yahoo to blow up the pictures to full-size (weird?).

Also, the other thing I dislike about Yahoo (and I'm sure Hunki will agree) is the really really really ugly long URLs it generates.

I'm also very interested, markbach. Great idea and generous and thoughtful suggestion!

Ok, folks, after a beta period (thanks, techgirl, mashav, and mjm), I'm ready to start allowing the general public to use this:
Just go to http://ftpics.markbach.com/ and from there you can view others' pics or sign up for an account. As usual, any questions or concerns, just email me.
