What the heck's wrong with kissing FTers?

The kissing topics have been a lot of fun. They're about Flyertalkers, by Flyertalkers. Which is why I'm confused about why the topics were moved to OMNI.

Last time I checked, Flyertalk Community was "the official get together page for the FlyerTalk community." If kissing isn't getting together, I don't know what is.

Apparently, we can talk about trolls and remain strictly on-topic (meaning, I guess, that idle gossip here is okay). We can talk about who we all are (so long as no kissing is involved). We can even run an employment agency which has nothing to do with get-togethers.

But we're banished to the rubbish heap of "OMNI" if we want to kiss? Not since I was a teenager did I have to go behind the bike shed for a quick smooch.

Any moderator want to explain why smooching is off-limits in Community?

They are just jealous because their lips haven't been kissed lately or maybe the person kissing them isn't worth telling.

So sad.

Go ahead and OMNI this but the kissing will continue.

If you are lucky.

Kiss Kiss

Randy please don't give in to a couple of FTers. Just by looking at how many people posted to these threads, I believe that most people felt it was an appropriate forum. Of course the KISS band one wasn't but...

Who knows?

FWIW, many topics/threads concerning FT'ers and/or talking about them, have previously been not only moved, but also closed in the past. Just a few recent examples from FT Community:

http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/Forum95/HTML/001865.html

http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/Forum95/HTML/001884.html

http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/Forum95/HTML/001945.html

And even in OMNI, this thread was also closed:

http://www.flyertalk.com/travel/fttr...ML/004552.html

Yet, curiously, some, (even within Community), such as this one:

http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/Forum95/HTML/002001.html

remain open, even now!

As does this BBK initiated thread in OMNI:

http://www.flyertalk.com/travel/fttr...ML/004155.html

FWIW, this has also been brought up for discussion previously, to some degree, at:

The closing of community threads

http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/Forum95/HTML/001946.html

My limited understanding was that Randy does not want to censor anyone but that he strongly prefers that we not talk about others.

Yet life has many mysteries, of which this is perhaps one!

FWIW, I'm curious, as I've posted several times before, if and when, we will actually have a "Moderator" return to the Community forum and for that matter be assigned to the others? Thanks!

And that's just the tip of the iceberg!

Have a great day all!

I might be wrong as to who did it Matthew but it looks to me like Randy closed about ten threads here himself a short time back. They covered a few pages of recent topics, and he made a remark on one thread when closing it. I make this comment based on simple observation only, and apart from my one public post had no other input re these.

Anyway, whomever closed that bunch of threads down possibly seems to have been passing on a crystal clear message?

There seems to be widely differing opinions on it, but I agreed 100% with Premex's well written summary of this situation: (also on a locked down thread!)

http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/Forum95/HTML/002361.html

And I agree with you there are still threads here that possibly are not strictly "usual" in the Community page. I personally would like to see this Forum used for primarily charting dinners, 'DOS' - huge, medium, and small, get-togethers, dinners, airport drinks and such like.

i.e. the threads that one USED to until quite recently find pretty exclusively in Community - mixed when applicable with genuine and important personal matters affecting FT'ers such as illness/serious operations/passing of a loved one etc.

The OMNI Forum is there and heavily patronised for much of the other light hearted content, and it can be just as witty and just as much fun, no matter what Forum it is moved to.

It's cause we all have cooties, and Randy's trying to keep everyone from getting them.

And just how is OMNI a rubbish heap? The real trash bin is called "Misposted Threads".

I'll be the one to go out on a limb and say thank goodness these were moved or closed.. the first one was kind of funny for about a minute but when all the other threads regarding kissing opened up it became somewhat ridiculous. I am so glad that they were shut down or moved.. hopefully this will follow those to the "thread closed" grave as well.. BTW, I was not one of those who complained to Randy about this..

I didn't know either maybe you should ask the one who started all these threads

Wingless appears to think there were some..

as posted by wingless:

I'll go out on the THANK YOU limb too.

Why is that some FT'ers think they are not subject to the forum descriptions?

What is so hard about initiating a thread in the proper forum?

THANK YOU FT, please keep up the good work.

How does one know that this is what "some" are thinking?

What is so hard to understand about some folks not being so "hard wired" and locked into a kind of digital (go/ NO go) logic?

Can there be any shades of grey?

I hope so!

Thanks! Have a great night all!

Ab-so-lute-ly.

Let Omni be the trash-heap. Keep Community for FT events, meetings and the like. Especially since one dumb, meaningless topic spawns five copy-cats overnight.

Abject drivel.
