newself's medical update

For all of you that have been asking me to keep them informed of what is happening to me, I just got back from the hospital and here what I know so far.

I had an angiogram yesterday and according to the doctor, my arteries are clear and look like "garden hoses". So that means that the heart wall muscle is thickening and that is what is causing the PVC's. I think the medical term is Cardio Myopthopy and I will have to be on medication. My mom had the same disease when she died 15+ years ago but the advances in medicine are so much greater now.

After the test, Mr. Limo came to pick me up but they wouldn't release me as my BP wouldn't stabilize so I spent the night at the hospital. I am home now and am resting. I get the official results and treatment plan on Thursday afternoon.

So this and my newly diagonosed asthma will probably keep me from making it to the Portland Brew Fest but I am still planning on making it up to Seattle just so Travelweary can buy me all of those Guinness's that she owes me!

Thank you for all of your kind thoughts while I was going through this. Please don't send any cards or gifts but beer is always gladly accepted!

Dave:

Sorry to hear about all of this. Please take care of yourself.

As your Guinness buddy, I gotta tell you I'm happy to hear that beer appears to be a major part of your treatment plan. We'll all do our part at PDX and have an extra one for you and then call you in the middle of the night. Feel better yet?

Seriously, you know your health is way more important than anything we get up to at a Do.

Indurain Jul 9, 2002 4:38 pm

it is good to know, newself that you have friends around the world - whenever you on the westcoast feel alone/lost at night, send me an email, chances are excellent that I will be up already here.

Thanks very much for the update Dave!

I'm so sorry to hear about this "issue," and as you know, it could be worse.

Most importantly, please take good, or rather excellent care of yourself! You desrve the best! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif And you well know how your health is paramount.

Dave, wishing you all the best as you look to the future. Was great to see you this past weekend and I look forward to a repeat performance (without such surly interruptions) in Seattle.

smooth Jul 9, 2002 8:43 pm

Dave, have a speedy recovery. Developments like this sure make one appreciate and enjoy life more. And this would be another good reason to come to the SEA Do! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif
I hope eating desserts would be a part of your treatment. I would have shared mine with you at the next Do had you not owed me two or three already.
Keep your chin up, my bets are on you!

newself Jul 9, 2002 8:50 pm

Wow, I woke up from a 4 hour power nap and there were 25 replies with best wishes! You are all amazing and I am glad that I have had the opportunity to meet with all of you at least once in the last 4 years! I am looking forward to many more years of good health which means more FT events! Thanks again for the best wishes!

Dave

Catman Jul 9, 2002 9:21 pm

Hey Bud... this is positive news because we all need you around for many, many years to come.

Get some rest, and remember that your health comes WAY before an FT do. There will be plenty of those I'm sure.

I especially want you around for a very long time. Who else could be MY BODYGUARD! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

And if you need a "nurse" I can be there on that wonderful airline called UNITED in five hours. I can bring EDDIE and YAZ if you like.

Maybe set up a nice place for you at the LAX PC Club... in one of the conference rooms! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Keep us posted bud.

newself, it seems that some people would rather spend a night in the hospital than hitch a ride with me. Although with that brunette on duty on your floor, I'm sure you didn't mind. I was tempted to check myself in for observation but they wouldn't accept any of my Frequent Flyer cards at Admissions. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

Feel better, take care of yourself and beware of Jack Daniel's drinking chauffeurs.

I'vev run into you so often at the PC at EWR when you are on a run to FLL that I instinctively look for you whenever I am at the club. Get well and hope to see you there soon again.
