If anyone is really interested, they can go back and trawl the archives. While I generally embrace a policy of 'forgive and forget', I realise that is easier for some people than others. For those that aren't ready to 'forgive and forget' yet, perhaps 'ignore' is the right decision.

Constant rehashing of the past merely brings old wounds to the surface, with all the division and disharmony that goes along with it. It's not good for Flyertalk and not good for the community.

If there really are scores to be settled, please do it by e-mail.

While I mean these to be general comments, obviously my views have implications on this thread: With all due respect to Randy, crime and punishments; sanctions and rehabilitation should not be super secret. If the goal is to impact on community members posting behavior, then what caused a ban, and the length of that ban, should be made public.

Do the crime, do the time. Then, once rehabilitated (and hopefully apologetic) be welcomed back. If an affront was severe enough to warrant a ban, then a public apology to the community should be required to re-post.

I am more comfortable with knowing how a person violated FT rules by doing what specific listed acts and then being told the proscribed length of the time-out, rather than him/her just disappearing and reappearing. Without knowing specifics, how can a rational person adjust their behavior accordingly and be deterred from committing similar violations? Also, this will avoid the ubiquitous, where is so and so threads.

Also, once back from posting exile, are members returned on probation status whereby recidivism is cause for further or lifetime bans?

These ideas have been expressed on FlyerTalk so **** many times before. Randy has made his stance known and many people have chimed in with their feelings. Perhaps there is a better thread to express such an opinion in. I'd be happy to chime in, especially in regards to your line about being apologetic, once such a thread is established or resurrected.

Can this thread be reserved for those who elect to welcome back a missing identity.

TransWorld,

I believe Jailer is a professional in these matters, and knows what he's talking about.

As to your statement, I somewhat agree with you but...

I think a post needs to be balanced; have multiple opinions, to be accurate. Isn't that the flyertalk way?

edited to add...

While there's no love lost between me and OzStamps; to his credit, he's been a good poster on another travel board I frequent.
Isn't that all that matters anyway?

Dan

Well, I for one missed the history of all this. (Sorry, can't read all the forums/fora!) The important thing is this. If Randy is happy, so should we all be.

I just know that in the just under two years that I have been part of this community, I have found so much useful advice and benefits.

In my case, these started with Ozstamps's report of his Seattle suite at 5 cents (or whatever it was) and his recommendation of Priceline and Sheryl's site. That link alone has saved me megabucks on hotels, car hire and air tickets and given me the opportunity of making trips I wouldn't otherwise have made. So thanks, Glen!

[Personal to Glen, on the day we lost Hansie Cronje: my MCC annual report sadly prints obituaries of members who have passed away in the past year, normally taking a paragraph or two plus a photo for each. MCC's most prominent member, Sir Don, had a whole page of text and a whole page photo and merited no less.]

Roger ... I am sitting here in the Norwegian Alps at Myrdal, snow all round, watching CNN and they are leading the news with the death of Hansie Cronje. Now I would have thought nobody in the USA had ever heard of him, but that was some surprise to me. Bet he does not score a page in The Times though.

Glen, sorry, I don't read The Times - not everything touched by an Aussie turns to gold and Rupert has much to answer for! - but Hansie got good coverage in real newspapers in spite of the Royal hype we have been suffering over this weekend.

Don't forget the CNN you were watching was CNN International, which is rarely seen in the US and which tailors its programmes to suit peak viewing hours in the world (i.e. more European features in the European evening while Asian features appear in the European early hours). So I guess that explains it.

Did we really have to resurrect a two year old thread for this?

Agree with wharvey. Interesting that not even artruro could follow this thread in its earlier time and it seems completely unnecessary to resurrect in Community. For the enhancement of FT, let's send it back to the archives. Ocn Vw 1K, Moderator.
