Pre-Chicago-Do in NYC

Hello all,

I'll be flying into ORD for the big Chicago Do via EWR. As my flight from Zurich arrives at 7:15pm I will spend at least a night there, but I could also arrive on 5/29 and spend 5/30 with you FTers from New York. I will be on AA1257 EWR-ORD on 5/31. Does anybody like to do a Pre-Chicago-thing?

I'd also be glad to get recommendations for a EWR airport hotel at a good (priceline?) rate.

(edited for flight details.)

I would recommend you contact the resident FT EWR Ambassador (aka Catman) for the best recommendations in the Newark area. Do let me know if you do oranize a pre-Chicago thing, I should be in town and would be glad to join.

Ya know, I love Chicago , but I really don't think anybody here in New York thinks of ourselves as their opening act.

airoli... there are several hotels near EWR that I have stayed at... here are the reviews:

*Hilton EWR: hunt for a good rate but this is the best of all the properties.
*Hampton Inns: simple, clean, decent service and a good dollar value.
*Four Points: the staff has been inconsistant and the giving of SPG amenities (Had to remind them of the platinum amenity) gives it minuses but it's also a clean hotel.

I have also stayed at the Marriott at EWR but it can be pricey.

If you can come out on the 29th maybe we could do dinner near EWR. There are great Spanish/Portuguese places.

Or i can meetyou and take you into the city by the NJ Transit train.

Keep me posted. Would like to meet you.

Actually, the Courtyard at EWR isn't bad, and the Sheraton (used to be Radisson) is nice too. Just remember the Courtyard is right next to the Northern State Prison, so you may want to bring bars of soap and small knives.

Catman,

I've just confirmed my flights - I arrive at EWR on the evening of 5/29. As it will be about 2am body time for me then I'd prefer going straight to the hotel. But I'd love to meet you the next day, in NY or for dinner or whatever.

I plan to use Priceline for my hotel, could you tell me what would be a reasonable bid for two nights?

I bid on Priceline and got the EWR Marriott for 40 = $54, so that's where I'll stay.
