Flyertalk copycat?

I recently stumbled upon http://www.moremiles.org/

Looks suspiciously similar to FlyerTalk... Has anyone heard anything about them?

Never mind.. I guess people have -- half the usernames on that board are that of Flyertalk regulars -- BlondeBomber, Punki, Rudi, chexfan, and others have posted there.

Still, I'm curious about what they're all about -- they seem to be a carbon copy of Flyertalk in many respects.

FT copycat?

Isn't FT TOBB?

Some similarities, and some differences, and surely plenty of room in cyberspace for both, IMHO!

The founders=owners (once 25) started that other board (as a back-up board to FlyerTalk first) already in late 1998/early 1999 when
a) This board here was down many times
b) a new asian member of this board here was censored (his Flyertalkname included a great Japanese airport that was found to be offensive ...), and we (some FlyerTalk oldies) were not happy with that policy

in late 2000/early 2001 we (the 25 oldies) became worried about the future of this FlyerTalk-board (the not enough moderating-issue and the not strict controle of real persons behind new akas, and the not strict exclusion of 'double' personalities) and made a special (limited) effort to more than activate the alternative board.

But we (the 25 founders) also agreed to not 'advertise'/promote the other board here on FlyerTalk and to still support the 'original' (FlyerTalk) to the best we can. So please understand if I will not post more about 'that other board' here on FlyerTalk.

Randy has been informed by us several times about our activity and didn't mind (even posted some support and did wish us good luck).

to 'round up' the above information it might also interest you that:

we (NJDavid as the leader, Catman and Rudi as 'followers') bought the flyertalk.com domain in late 1998/early 1999 and gifted it to Randy at the PIP in HNL on nov-5-1999.

And to further inform, not all of the original 25 founders of Moremiles still participate at that site. There turned out to be major disagrements on such topics as honor, equal treatment of all members, blind justice, following agreed guidelines, and keeping one's promises.

I believe it is currently an active site with many members, including some who are no longer allowed to participate here on FT, some who choose not to participate on FT, and some who participate on both. That last group included a number of people who saw no conflict serving as the "directors" of both sites, but that group has been reduced significantly.

I can assure you (from first hand knowledge) that despite past rumors, Moremiles was never intended to be "an elitist society" nor a "Flyertalk replacement" and there was in fact a great desire NOT to copy Flyertalk nor injure it in any way. However, it also was never intended to be a monument to broken promises and dishonor, and fills that role very well for some.

As someone who participates actively on both boards, Im not sure I understand your above comment. Would you be so kind as to further explain yourself? Thank you.

You've got mail (or you will shortly). Flyertalk is not the place for more details than have already been given in answer to the posted question.

While I look forward to reading your email, I will also say to you that I dont agree with the concept of generalizing in public and then qualifying the same statement in private. Thats like what the press sometimes does, they accuse you on the front page, and they then do a "fe de errata" thats hidden somewhere on page 79.

I had forgotten that you guys gave Randy the FlyerTalk domain--kind of funny that he didn't have it in the first place.

While I understand your point, I feel it is not applicable here.

I gave plenty of reasons in my post to justify the conclusion I made, and was careful to also note all of the appropriate positive and negative points equally.

IMHO going deeper into the mechanics of another internet site is not appropriate for a thread in "Flyertalk Community."

Yes there are other bb boards out in the internet.
Sort of like niche airlines.
The one being discussed here is a supposedly moderated board and for those who care there is even a ff board that advertises that it is unmoderated.
And even though flyertalk has forums in Travel about topics such as bidding strategies and timeshares both of these have bb that cover these topics in greater depth.
And yes just like the airlines there are going to be posters who only post in one board and posters who post in several boards and non-posters who just watch the posts..........
For sure I like the fact that we have so many choices.

Im sorry, but you are missing the point. Im not interested in getting deeper into the mechanics of another site, I have taken issue with you on a post you have made on this board that I find offensive to me. Actually, its also offensive to others that post of that other board, but I now speak for myself only.

I would ask you to edit your post above, and actually, an apology is also in order.

Finally, I would also ask, where are the Moderators??? I thought all FT members were equal. I hope some members are not more equal than others.
