Humiliation II

There’s Temptation Island II, Survivor II, so why not Flyertalk’s own brand of degradation? With so many new “virtual” faces, there must some great new embarrassing tales. So, with a new year soon upon us and with the last game’s winner just recently paid off, it’s time for Humiliation II.

This is simply a reprise, so once again the rules:

There is a wonderful parlor game called Humiliation. The goal of the game is to name something that you haven’t done that everybody else in the room has done. To win you have to embarrass yourself, hence the name: Humiliation. For example, at a social gathering of English professors, admitting that you have never read Hamlet would glean you a lot of points--one for each person who had read Hamlet (you might also earn the disdain of your colleagues). At a Fraternity party you could score big points by confessing to your Brothers that you never got drunk and threw up.

The goal is not to backhandedly compliment yourself, but to own up to your ineptitude, newbie mistakes and (village) idiot-ness.

So, in context of Flyertalk, what rudimentary travel skill or feat do you lack that everybody else has accomplished?

(Note to moderators: this in is the community forum because this is a party game to be played with your friends).

So, are you ready kids? I can’t hear you!

To get this rolling, I’ll once again note (although it’s getting close) that I have logged more miles in cars than in airplanes.

I've had a Diners Club Card for many years, and not once did I threaten to cancel it in order to receive a retention bonus

--and--

I've used MCI since 1985, and I've never switched from them in order to get miles. In fact, I still get 5 AA miles per dollar, even though I never fly AA.

Around this neighborhood, that is humiliating.

I'll up that... I don't own ANY type of mileage earning credit card.

In fact, I don't get any particular benefit at ALL from the 2 Mastercards and 1 Visa that I use... I am just too lazy to deal with applying for a new card.

I have yet to score an elite airline upgrade. Here's hoping I have some luck in using those DL 800 mile upgrades in 2002!

TECHGIRL: You have so many miles you don't have to collect the nonbase ones! I'll be glad to fill out all the paper work for you in exchange for a percentage of the miles! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Happy New Year All!

I've never been bumped, I don't look for bumps, I hate bumps, and I'd do anything to avoid one (sorry tom911!).

AnnaS Dec 30, 2001 7:07 pm

For my travels, unless is leisure & a substantial ticket price difference, I tend to avoid connections and stick to airlines where I fly non-stop. My time is usually worth more than racking up the extra segments.

I have no clue if my miles post from my credit card, telephone bills, dining, hotel stays, car rental...

I don't read every posting on the MilesBuzz and United boards. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/redface.gif

Y’all aren’t as stoopid as I gave you credit for. I hate to drop a dime on myself, but: In a galaxy far, far away, when I was young(er) and ignorant(er)....The time: 1981. The place: England. Idiot friend Matt and I were flying to Israel, and dutifully got to the airport two hours early only to find that the flight was at 0751, not 7:51 p.m. (1951 hrs), having not yet figured out military time. Near broke, we slept at the airport and flew out the next morning, feeling very lucky indeed to get seats.

So far, I declare myself in the lead for the grand prize.

mjm Dec 30, 2001 10:02 pm

I have not been on a Delta or American Airlines flight since the mid-1970’s. Feeling I ought to though with all the good write-ups on the seating. Hmmmm....

And have never been on a USAir flight. A very limited adulthood I guess.

In spite of reading the FlyerTalk Board faithfully for over 1 1/2 years, I've never done a Mileage Run, been Bumped, or reached Elite status in an airline program.

Blessedly, if all goes as planned, my humiliation should end about 24 hours from now.

MagMile Dec 30, 2001 10:48 pm

I've flown on an airline this year w/o signing up for the FF program.

siliconengineer Dec 31, 2001 12:05 am

I've have never done a mileage run, but thats already been mentioned.

How about that I've never asked for a comp to an elite program.
