Jailer, you know I would not fib about things.

Newself was only drinking Iced Tea at Stiffs becuase he was coming off a very bad bug. He was on medication so no alcohol.

But my buddy is doing better now.

OMNI for Missy: Bern's is one of the best steakhouses in the country in Tampa. Two years ago Quiet Lion organized a get together of Flyertalkers there. Great place.

One more thing for Jailer's game: I have NOT been to Met Grill, Seattle.

Yet.

I stayed at a Motel 6 this year. And liked it. And saved a heck of a lot of money.

The room itself was very comparable to what I typically get at surburban Marriotts, except for the molded bathroom fixtures and the plastic cup. I am not saying they are all like that; this one was brand new. But it was just fine.

I purchased enough Nutri Grain bars to redeem 500,000 miles on American Airlines. It took us (my dear enslaved family) two entire weekends to haul, empty and sort, cut out certificates, afix labels and send off to Kelloggs. That said, I never ate one of those bars.

I left my Sony NC-10s in the pocket seat ...

Edited to add:

Hey dgolds, Motel 6's aren't that bad!!!

I am such an AA fanatic that when I get bumped, I will not let them route me on another airline. This has at times meant having to wait from a Friday night to a Sunday morning to depart.

I actually was able to convince an AA agent to re-route me MIA-LAX-ORD-MKE in F on a bump since it would put me in at the same time as the next available flight to ORD and MKE......still haven't been able to acheive the legendary international re-route (ie MIA-LHR-ORD-MKE) :P

I still haven't made it to an FT event http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif

LOL....one of my receptionist did the same thing! She brought them to the office, and I had to eat three of them, just to make sure they were safe for my staff!

Competition is getting tough...
  • On my last 200 business/first class flights, I have had no more than 3 alcohol drinks total, including wine.
  • I spent $1800 on a Avis car rental in Germany, simply because I have no idea how to drive a manual transmission. That was more than my airfare to get there, on an upgradeable ticket.
  • I've never had a single cup of coffee in my live, and I'm neither British nor Mormon.
  • I have not flown one mile since Labor Day.
  • I think Krispy Kremes and In-N-Out burgers are overrated.
  • I can listen to almost any music, except Jimmy Buffet, who makes me nauseous.
  • In Europe, I never give my key back to the reception desk during my stay, even if they weld a boat anchor to it.
  • After flying over a million miles, almost all in the front of the plane, I've never received any gift (like a bottle of wine) from the flight crew.
  • I'll sneak ketchup on a good steak, if I can get away with it.
  • I think Delta's upgrade policy makes sense.
  • I let some systemwide upgrades go unused this year.

hm... well, I've never done a Latin Pass or Baht Run. I missed the valuemagazines or whatever 450% promo. I have never drunk Dom Perignon and hate caviar. I've never been on a big Airbus, just the 319/320. never flown on Southwest or TWA, though I did fly Pan Am when I was a larva. I've never flown in international first class.

but the worst travel shame of all: I had to fly on Sun Country once and that was probably the dirtiest plane I've ever been on. that's the last time I book business travel by phone because our company TA will automatically book the cheapest fare, but if I do it on their web site I can pick for myself.

oh, and I've stayed at the Gobbler Motel! http://lileks.com/institute/motel/index.html

stimpy Jan 1, 2002 1:44 pm

Opus, that's not true humiliation. I've never had coffee and I don't drink on flights either. I'm not a bit ashamed about it.

OTOH, letting those systemwides go unused...

I left my camera on the tram at ATL and ran down an up escalator into a secure area to retreive it, causing the entire terminal to be evacuated. The whole time I stood out on the curb with a few thousand other people I was too dense to know that I was the reason for all the commotion.

Oh, wait, that was someone else....

This remains my favorite FT story of all time. I can't help laugh everytime I think about it.

I stayed at an InnPoints property AND posted about it in the InnPoints forum on FT, but never signed up for InnPoints.

I KNOW no one else has done this unless they run over there to do it now that I've metioned it! :-)

I have never so far used an award ticket..

Although I drive a lot in the USA, and although I have visited dozens of countries, spending lots of time in each (weeks or months in many), I have only ever driven a car outside of the USA ONCE. This was on the island of Corsica in 2000.

(I too am unable to drive a stick shift/standard transmission. I had not reserved a rental car in advance and it took a couple of days before an automatic transmission was available. Was it the only one on the whole island???)

OK, this is going to be embarassing...
  • I've never been elite with any airline.
  • I've never been to Asia.
  • I've never been to a FT meeting with more than 4 people.
  • I've never flown a 747.

Luckily, a month from now only the last item on my list will remain.
