So, Im going to spend 1 day in Chicago, Im thinking of getting a room at The Drake. Is this hotel conveniently located to see some nice sites in the city?

Correction, will not be staying at the Drake, HHonors will not give me an award stay. Looking at options for Starwood properties... I wonder which one is the best?

I would think that the Westin on North Michigan Avenue and East Delaware Place (opposite the Hancock Center) would be ideal for your purposes. It is very well located; close to shopping, dining and the lakefront and it is well served by public transportation and, of course, taxis. Some museums and attractions are within walking distance; others would involve a bus, cab or train (elevated train or subway) ride. FWIW, this Westin is one block south of the Drake.

Let me point out that I have not stayed in any of the Chicago Starwood properties in a number of years; my recommendation is based strictly upon location and ease of getting around. I will add that the W Chicago City Center (at 172 West Adams Street in the "Loop") would be the closest to the Blue Line rapid transit that serves O'Hare airport but its location is better suited to business travelers. To my mind, you would be better off at the Westin Michigan Avenue; I guess my second choice, based upon location, would be the Westin Chicago River North.

The Westin River North is not as convenient as the Westin Michigan Ave to shopping but is closer to several excellent restaurants. From what I've been told it's much nicer in the rooms - it's a former Nikko.

I would avoid the W Downtown because both its in a business district that's dead on the weekend, plus looking at it in travelocity I found that they have 175 sqft rooms as well as 350 sqft rooms. For an award, I'd be concerned that I'd be stuck in one of the smaller ones.

The Sheraton looks nice, but it's a few blocks from most stuff.

Yes, the Sheraton is nice. I stayed there shortly after it opened. Rooms are fairly large and well appointed. Location is the only drawback.
