EssxJay Moderator Question

I have a question... you closed ErnestB's post about the Chat not working saying "What does this have to do with FT get-togethers?". I would say chat room conversations ARE a type of get-together.

But, you chose to leave open the OZStamps post in the same FT Community. In fact, you posted to that thread.

How is the OZStamps OK for this FT community but the chat post is not?

Trying to understand.

The 'best' place for the technical Chat question would probably the Technical Issues Forum

wharvey Dec 15, 2001 12:01 pm

Rudi,

I am not question that... I agree that a technical question should be there...

I am asking a "Moderator" question on why one thread was closed verses another one.

Perhaps if essxjay had not closed ernestb's thread so quickly, someone might have had the chance to explain that everyone must have left just before he returned.  I was on before that and then we all left.

As for why the other thread was not closed earlier, I am as confused as you, wharvey.

The chat post was a post about chat, not community. The Oz post did involve our community, however difficult the discussion was for some. I'm defending the moderator, a first for me.

Wondering what the definition of "FT Community" is if it does not include Chat.

But does apparently include:

Where are all the Chatters

You know you are a newbie

HHHHHmmmmmmmmmmmm.

I thought the standard protocal for communicating with the Moderators was through their personal email. I may be mistaken, but I think that's probably the best way to have a question answered...

svpii Dec 15, 2001 3:09 pm

Hey! That 'you know you are a newbie' was my thread Wharvey!

Seriously, it's a opinion call - and you know what opinions are similar to... http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif I would not have objected should my thread have been moved.. I intentionally didn't post it in Omni because it was travel related... marginally perhaps, but nonetheless.. but it's a difficult thing isn't it?

I see no evidence ess is being biased toward subject or poster, nor mercurial in her treatment of threads. I just don't think any of us will agree on all decisions..

What does this topic have to do with FT get-togethers?--- this is the quote pasted from my locked chat thread that was left by EssxJay and also closed the thread without allowing me to respond.
MY answer to her question, even though if she could have used a little common sense the person would have realized the answer.
SO here is the answer, FT CHAT is a community source that we have, for those of us that want to come together and talk live to one another.

Why did I put the thread here in FT Community:
Very easy cause FT CHAT is the community and according to the webster dictonary the defination is :A body of people having common rights, responsibilities and interests.

With that I have every right to put that thread in this community. The moderator of this forum made an error of judgement. It has been a repeat occurence as well. If the moderator doesn't like what the thread it she just moves it to another forum even if it dones't belong there. The excuse we then here oh well Im not the moderator on that board and it would be hard for me to move it to the correct board.

Im expecting an apology within the next 72 hours, otherwise I will persue my options since I will not tolerate the abuse of this moderator.

Try this for an answer: Ess has been on vacation all week with her mother.

svpii Dec 15, 2001 7:58 pm

Nathan - ?? Don't understand you answer in context??

Eugene Dec 15, 2001 8:30 pm

I have to add my voice to those who think that chat-related threads belong to the FT Community forum. I wonder why the thread in question was closed while another similar thread (Good Grief...Where are all the chatters?) stays open (and rightfully so).

I also find it interesting that ernestb's thread received the comment it did from EssxJay and then was just closed... not moved to Technical Suggestions... but just closed.

She had time to close ernestb's thread, so I'm sure she had time to read/close other threads as well. And I'm sure she has time to contact ernest via personal email and explain her actions to him and/or apoligise.

Moderator2 Dec 15, 2001 10:42 pm

Nathan is correct, Ess has been on vacation. Her ability to access FT might be limited for a few more days.

It might make some sense for those who have some issues that need clarification to Email her. I'm sure you will hear back shortly.
