EssxJay Moderator Question
I have a question... you closed ErnestB's post about the Chat not working saying "What does this have to do with FT get-togethers?". I would say chat room conversations ARE a type of get-together.
But, you chose to leave open the OZStamps post in the same FT Community. In fact, you posted to that thread. How is the OZStamps OK for this FT community but the chat post is not? Trying to understand. William |
The 'best' place for the technical Chat question would probably the Technical Issues Forum
|
Rudi,
I am not question that... I agree that a technical question should be there... I am asking a "Moderator" question on why one thread was closed verses another one. William |
Perhaps if essxjay had not closed ernestb's thread so quickly, someone might have had the chance to explain that everyone must have left just before he returned. I was on before that and then we all left.
As for why the other thread was not closed earlier, I am as confused as you, wharvey. FewMiles.. ------------------ [ FlyerTalkers' Resources on the Web ] [ Unofficial Guide to AAdvantage ] [ Unofficial oneworld Info Desk ] |
The chat post was a post about chat, not community. The Oz post did involve our community, however difficult the discussion was for some. I'm defending the moderator, a first for me.

Wondering what the definition of "FT Community" is if it does not include Chat.
But does apparently include: Where are all the Chatters You know you are a newbie HHHHHmmmmmmmmmmmm. William |
I thought the standard protocal for communicating with the Moderators was through their personal email. I may be mistaken, but I think that's probably the best way to have a question answered...
|
Hey! That 'you know you are a newbie' was my thread Wharvey!
Seriously, it's a opinion call - and you know what opinions are similar to... http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif I would not have objected should my thread have been moved.. I intentionally didn't post it in Omni because it was travel related... marginally perhaps, but nonetheless.. but it's a difficult thing isn't it? I see no evidence ess is being biased toward subject or poster, nor mercurial in her treatment of threads. I just don't think any of us will agree on all decisions.. |
What does this topic have to do with FT get-togethers?--- this is the quote pasted from my locked chat thread that was left by EssxJay and also closed the thread without allowing me to respond.
MY answer to her question, even though if she could have used a little common sense the person would have realized the answer. SO here is the answer, FT CHAT is a community source that we have, for those of us that want to come together and talk live to one another. Why did I put the thread here in FT Community: Very easy cause FT CHAT is the community and according to the webster dictonary the defination is :A body of people having common rights, responsibilities and interests. With that I have every right to put that thread in this community. The moderator of this forum made an error of judgement. It has been a repeat occurence as well. If the moderator doesn't like what the thread it she just moves it to another forum even if it dones't belong there. The excuse we then here oh well Im not the moderator on that board and it would be hard for me to move it to the correct board. Im expecting an apology within the next 72 hours, otherwise I will persue my options since I will not tolerate the abuse of this moderator. edited as I wanted to bring over the remarks from the locked forum: essxjay Posts: 2160 From: PDX -- UA 1P, US Gold, Hilton Gold Registered: posted 12-15-2001 10:47 AM -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- What does this topic have to do with FT get-togethers? Try this for an answer: Ess has been on vacation all week with her mother.
|
Nathan - ?? Don't understand you answer in context??
|
I have to add my voice to those who think that chat-related threads belong to the FT Community forum. I wonder why the thread in question was closed while another similar thread (Good Grief...Where are all the chatters?) stays open (and rightfully so).
|
I also find it interesting that ernestb's thread received the comment it did from EssxJay and then was just closed... not moved to Technical Suggestions... but just closed.

Nathan is correct, Ess has been on vacation. Her ability to access FT might be limited for a few more days.
It might make some sense for those who have some issues that need clarification to Email her. I'm sure you will hear back shortly. ------------------ Craig6z Buzz & United Moderator [email protected] |

I support Ess in anything she does...as well as the other thankless moderators.
ernestb, what do you mean by this statement? "I'expecting an apology within the next 72 hours, otherwise I will persue my options ..." What are your options? Will you never come back? Poke your eyes out? Destroy your computer? Kill yourself? What? Please tell us...we are very interesting to see how you...a very new member to the community might pursue "options"!! HEY GANG,
I do not like where this thread is going. All I asked was a simple question of EssxJay to understand why certain threads were left open and others closed. I posted publicly because I thought it would be helpful for the entire community to understand. I do not want to see personal attacks here... and ask everyone to refraim from doing that on this thread. I am assuming EssxJay ... as she has done in the past ... will explain her reasoning. Thanks William |
Tis the season to be nice everyone. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Part of the problem here is that people seem to take the locking (or even relocating) of a thread personally. Witness the many posts in this thread.
The moderator's decision is reasonable given the original post which is, IMHO, a question concerning technical issues. Perhaps the moderator could have worded the lock post differently. |

wharvey,
I don't happen to agree that FT Chat malfunctions have anything to do with FT Community threads. Specifically, the FT Community forum is for posting get-togethers. As Rudi stated, technical issues with Flyertalk should really be addressed in the Technical Issues forum, or better yet, by direct email to the webmaster. As for the closing of the ozstamps lives thread, that was done by Randy at 3:33 p.m. on Friday the 14th. ernestb, Agree to disagree that I made an error of judgement (in your opinion). However, I was not in any way abusive toward you. to all in the FT community who I've not have the pleasure to meet, Those FTers who've already met me and know me know that I'm pretty straightforward in my writing and speech. I think that sometimes comes off as harsh or insensitive, as JeffS and missydarlin seem to imply. But please know that I take great care to not offend anyone on FT. Yeah, I've had my moments of bad temper with doc, ozstamps/avgas and others. But since I've become a moderator I really do my ****edest to be polite and fair. I invite anyone who disagrees with me or my moderator activities in this forum to email me directly at [email protected]. {edited for spelling and grammar.} [This message has been edited by essxjay (edited 12-16-2001).] |
Essxjay,
Thanks for the response... my issue was NOT that the thread in question belonged here ... even though that could be debated considering other threads that were left open... wont repeat those. It just really confused me... when you closed the thread abruptly and did not move it to the proper place... which you seem to do with all other misappropiatly placed threads (and did not tell the poster where the thread should have been posted). For my part, thanks for the response. William |
wharvey,
I really, really appreciate your reply. I guess all I can say in response is that I'm not perfectly attentive in my moderation duties as I could be. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif BTW, is West Henrietta near Rochester? I have a good friend who just graduated from UOR Med school ... |
Essxjay,
YEP... a suburb of Rochester... south of the city. William |
Ahh!
On the Genesse? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/cool.gif Originally posted by wharvey: Essxjay, YEP... a suburb of Rochester... south of the city. William |
Close enough.... I can see the city skyline from our home...
Feel free to drop in sometime... http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif William |
essxjay: I was thinking in terms of hindsight. Hey , I live on the east coast and we prefer getting straight to the point. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif
|
Actually, I don't get any of this.
So there was no one in chat. So what? It happens http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif Not a technical issue or a chat crash - just bedtime in the US and no other countries on Jan ( formerly a New Yorker) |
Regarding West Henrietta (having stayed in several motels there at various times):
"On the Genessee"? Not exactly... On the Thruway! |
RICH,
You know West Henrietta well... http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif Quick route to Buffalo for mileage runs! William |
I appreciate the kind words of essxjay in response to my post, I really do appreciate you taking the time, and I know that you will contiune to be a asset to FT and am looking forward to your advice and posts in the future. May essxjay have a peaceful and safe holiday.
To everyone else even though this thread was done without me knowing, I appreicate the suppport of my fellow Ft's and also extend my deepest wish that all is safe throughtout the holidays. Ernie |
