Sounds like we should do something like this in Chicago with Italian Beef.</font>
Italian Beef & Hot Dog joints, although the latter have really deteriorated in the last 7-8 years as Vienna keeps raising their prices. Mr. Beef is fine but it's difficult for me to get to, Al's and Buona have deteriorated, Portillo's is very good for a chain, but my favorite sandwich is at Johnny's in Elmwood Park. No indoor seating at Johnny's, though.

Rule #1 of Italian Beef - you can't find a decent beef sandwich north of Diversey Avenue.

Also, no trip to Chicago is truly complete without going to Jim's on Maxwell and Halsted at 2am for Slotkowski Polish sausages and pork chop sandwiches with a bone, with a side of hawkers selling you Rollerex watches.

I had something with peanut butter in it. I am not saying I did not like it, I am just saying it was not any different (to me anyway) than other supermarket stuff.
If I were to try it again, what should I try?

How is February 15-17/18th (President's Day weekend). This could be good (fare sales, monday off of work) or bad (lots of people travelling).

Alternate dates are February 22-24 and March 1-3. If you're interested in coming, could you please rank these three weekends in order of preference, and I'll try to satisfy as many people as possible.

Feb 15-17 first - I can go to BWI to visit friends that will be off for the holiday.

Feb 22-23 next

March starts to become iffy

Catman Nov 4, 2001 7:13 pm

1st weekend of March works best for me.

Feb 15-17 is possible.

Feb 22-25 is completely OUT.

Just bringing this back up to the top. If you're thinking of coming, please, please, please let me know (either by posting here or emailing me) which dates work best for you. I'd really like as many people as possible to be able to make it, so let me know ASAP which weekends are good, and I'll try to set the date within the next week or so.

As I said before, I am leaning towards Presidents' Day weekend (February 15-17). The Only event I see in town that weekend is the Buyers Market of American Crafts, which should draw 5000-7000 people. (The All Star Game the weekend before will draw 30,000).

As it turns out, my calendar preferences are exactly the same as Catman's!

Right now, I can do any weekend EXCEPT Feb 15 to 17... so logic has it that will be the weekend you end up picking! *grin*

Count us in, we would love meeting everyone.
If there is anything we (fiancee and I) can do to help out a bit , please let me know. Looking foward to meeting all of you in our fair city....

markbach Nov 14, 2001 7:38 pm

Hmmm, I'm inclined to set the dates for March 1-3. The more I think about it, the more the holiday weekend sounds like a bad idea, as I'm sure the city will be crowded.

So, I think March 1-3 will be the final dates, unless anyone has major objections. I'll confirm this [final] date change when i get back next week.

March 1-3 works for me. Feb 17th I'll be flying back from Carnivale in Rio.

Mark please add me to the maybe list.

I can confirm for 3/2 and 3/3. I may or may not be there on Friday, depending if I'm on my way back from or to a project.

Early March is good for me. Count me in!
