Flying into SNA ( John Wayne ) on 18th Aug

I will be flying into SNA ( John Wayne ) on Saturday the 18th of Aug and heading down to San Juan Capistrano to check out a car I'm thinking of buying. What would be the easiest and least expensive way to get there in case I buy the car I'll be driving it home that day sometime. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated, and perhaps if anyone is available for a late lunch say around 1 - 2 pm close to the 405 or 5 freeways let me know.

Well I just answered my own question, Hertz will allow me to rent a one-way from SNA and drop off at the Dana Point Marriot resort for $25 incl taxes. Now how about someone up for lunch on Saturday the 18th in the early afternoon ?

Eric Clapton does not start until 8:00 PM, so I plan on starting the party early. Lunch time would be good for me.

I have a 2:30 departure out of SNA, so lunch close to the airport would be great.

I will be on vacation (I live about 3 miles north of San Juan Capistrano). However, I do look forward to meeting some of the local people (and distant people) for lunch on 9/2 when Rudi arrives.

I'm in! I'm in! I've got basketball at 2:30pm, so lunch is perfect.

How about a time and place?

Why doesn't someone from down there pick a spot say for 12:30pm. Preferably something close to SNA for Pacha and then post the address etc here. I'm up for just about anything, but my wife has to watch the food she eats so something not too exotic would be great. Indurain knows the area how about it Peter! Looking forward to seeing old friends and making new ones.

How's about the Yard House in Costa Mesa? They're right behind Nike Town and opens at 11:30am.

Maybe I should post the address too...

Yard House
1875 Newport Blvd
Costa Mesa, CA 92627
(949) 642-0090

They don't take reservations, but we'll make sure they know who we are...

(link to Yahoo map didn't work)

Sounds good to me, just throw out an address and we'll say 12:30 - 1 pm for stragglers. Thanks Peter.

Count me in as well!

Also, I know one of the owners of the Yard House so I know a bit about the place.

Yes, the Costa Mesa location would be better for proximity than the new Irvine Spectrum location, and Yes, they are open for lunch on Saturdays and No, they usually don't run a wait at that time (if we were going to one of the restaurants around the bay in Newport, even though its only a few more miles, that would be a different story).

I specifically didn't alert anyone at the restaurant that we would be there because it doesn't pay to have reservations as a "large" party - at any restaurant - let alone one without a wait. Like the mandatory 18-20% tip, even if the service sucks. There is no wait, so we don't need reservations.

Also, the Yardhouse ain't cheap. They have hundreds of specialty beers from all over the world, none costing less than like $7 a glass.

But the beers are GREAT and the food is really good too!

Can't wait!

Between 12:30-1:00 then at the Yardhouse, Costa Mesa, just at the end of the 55 fwy, down from the airport. And, here's the phone number for better directions: 949-642-0090.

Thanks to those who posted. I will try to be there before 12:30, it just depends how quickly I can push the sale and transaction through the Bank of America in Laguna Niguel. I should have no problem making 1pm though as long as I can return the rental car in Dana Point quickly. Hey it'll be a hectic morning but it's worth a stop at the yard house with some FT'ers.

Scott -

To save a bunch of time, if you don't already know this, instead of taking the 405 fwy or Pacific Coast Highway, as most will give directions for, you may get directions for taking the 73 fwy/toll road to and from all your destinations (SJC, LN and DP), including getting back to the 55 just before it ends at Newport Blvd and Triangle Square, which is the entertainment complex where the Yardhouse is located.

As you may know, on a hot, sunny Saturday in South County, you don't want to mess with the 405 or PCH, but the 73 (in between) is no problem for only a few bucks.

My apologies to everyone who showed up and I didn't. The transaction took much linger than I thought and then I realized that I had left Indurain's cell phone number at work. I hope everyone had a great lunch and I'm bummed that I didn't make it . Next time the first rounds on me.

It's no problem Scott.

We did have a great time, and I got to meet lisamcgu, the first BHAT RUN participant (soon to be) that I've ever met.
