Sir Lanka

I just noticed that there's no topic for Sri Lankan airlines (Air Lanka). What happened was quite shocking. I saw the picture of the whole airbus destroyed at the airport!

I guess this best belongs in the "In the news" forum, but it is interesting you raised the subject. I visited Sri Lanka a few years back, and found it a very sad country. It is so beautiful and had such potential to be a self-sufficient gem in the Indian Ocean, and has fallen on such distressing times. When I was there, staying at the InterContinental, two major office complexes beside the hotel were being rebuilt afte their recent bombing [Bank of Ceylon and Bank of Sri Lanka buildings], and shortly thereafter, terrorists again blew up the building next to the Hlton. Very, very sad...

I have to agree. Was there twice last year. It is depressing to see all the old colonial architechture falling apart from lack of maintenence. The lack of money to maintain the infrastructue shows in one of the roughest and slowest roads to and from an international airport I have ever been on.

The news photos from the airport are a little scary from the "I was there" point of view.

Hope they solve their problems before there is nothing left to visit.
