Wow, what a great itinerary! Mike and Carol: thanks for working so hard organizing the event. It will be fun ! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/cool.gif

I just saw the HOLIDEALS for this weekend in SAN.
Holiday Inn San Diego-Harbor View 101.40 USD Holiday Inn San Diego-Mission Valley 89.40 USD I heard that some people were still without a place to stay. I wish I could be there; have fun for me. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif |
Just as a double check, listed below is the schedule for the SAN gathering. I'm posting it here just to be sure everyone is clear on times, locations, etc. I recommend all attendees print either this or the e-mail from sd1k. That way, no one gets lost!
Friday, July 20...1:00 p.m. airport tour Gather on 3rd floor of COMMUTER TERMINAL at San Diego International. If arriving by car, park in Commuter Terminal parking lot - voucher for parking will be given out at the tour. If you arrive by plane into terminal 1 or 2, you can take the short walk to the commuter terminal or ride the "Red Bus", a free shuttle running every 10 minutes between terminals. There are lockers available in both terminals 1 and 2 for luggage storage, or you may bring luggage with you to the tour. It will be securely stored and returned at tour's end. Several of us with cars will be shuttling people from the airport to the control tower between 2:30 and 3:00 p.m. We anticipate finishing about 4:30 p.m., then adjourning to the Windsock Restaurant for drinks and munchies. The only 777 serving SAN takes off for LHR at 4:40 p.m. Watching that from the balcony of the Windsock would be a treat, time permitting. Friday evening dinner at the Rock Bottom Brewery, Gaslamp area/downtown, begins at 7:00 p.m. and lasts until ??? Saturday, July 21...Daytime options include Harbor Excursion boat ride, horse racing at Del Mar, Sea World, the Zoo, Cigarman's poker game, or anything else your imagination can create. Arrangements made individually, as you choose. Saturday evening dinner at the Prado in Balboa Park starts at 7:00 p.m. and lasts until ??? Sunday options include any of the Saturday daytime choices, Padres baseball game, or brunch, again arranged individually. If anyone has questions or problems, please call. We're here to help you enjoy San Diego! [This message has been edited by Captain Mike (edited 07-22-2001).] |

Thanks for your indulgence...and thanks for such great organization! Aloha. |
Lokahi,
We will be staying at the Commuter Terminal from 1:00 p.m. until 2:30, when the shuttling to the tower begins. If you can join us at 2:30, come to the Commuter Terminal and you can at least catch the tower part of the tour! |
Originally posted by SanDiego1K: ...And if I've thoroughly confused you, hopefully ChuckDEEwill come to the rescue. He lives downtown, and knows the transportation MUCH better than me...{B] Yes, the Flyer, AKA 992 is $2.25, sometimes you can get away with $2.00, depends on if the bus driver is paying attention. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif It has many stops on Broadway and the water front/cruise terminal. Trolley... usually $1.50 - $3.00 for local stuff, and a whopping $4.50 roundtrip to Tijuana. From the trolley station in TJ, only $5.00 cab ride to the main tourist drag with all the bars and pharmacies. Taking the Trolley to a ball game, Fashion Valley, and Old Town are cheap, fun ways to get there. Taxicabs... from airport to downtown runs $6 - $9 depending on where you are. I personally hate the cabs here, very sketchy drivers, with very sketchy fares. The Flyer, AKA 992, goes straight through the middle of downtown, and everything of importance is only a few minutes walk from a bus stop. The BA 777 at 4:40 is nice, but doesn't compare to the former 747 service. For those interested in plane spotting, maybe we could take a short trek (5 minute walk) from the Windsock to the parking garage that YOU WILL almost collide with when you land in San Diego! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif While standing on the roof, the airplanes fly about 100 feet over your head, and has views straight down the runway. Be prepared to dodge security guards though. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif Other than that, I think Captain Mike and SD1K have done a marvelous job of covering all the bases regarding this FT Get-Together. It promises to be loads of fun! ------------------ preez mine da pratform gahp. [This message has been edited by ChuckDEE (edited 07-18-2001).] |
Hey guys, I've been pushed over the fence... :p Here's my info:
Arrival date: Friday Mode of transportation: arriving by foot http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif Accomodations: a room in Little Italy they call corporate housing.... Will attend: Windsock for Happy Hour and maybe Rock Bottom for dinner May attend: Tijuana tour Will attend: Dinner at the Prado I have a car and can help some with carpooling/ridesharing. Separately, I have been working in San Diego with some transportation and border related issues, so I can help answer questions you may have. Quick note on going to Mexico: you need a social security card, birth certificate, or passport as proof of US citizenship-- a drivers license is _not_ enough, although lots of people believe it is. Just a tip. |
Have crosses the TJ border ( as recently as last Sun) with just a Drivers Liscence. Hassled on prescription drupgs bought - oh yeh - need for ID other than DL - no

Driver's permits, voter registration cards, affidavits and similar documents are not sufficient to prove citizenship for readmission into the United States." Most people do cross with only a drivers license.... some of the same people can be retained by INS for insufficient proof of citizenship... the thing is INS lets it slide many times. Just a friendly tip so no FTers get stuck at the border and miss their flights home. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif |
Hey - its 1008a Indiana Time and I'm at working - looking forward to leaving this afternoon for the San Diego trip!
See you all tomorrow afternoon at 100p! |
I'm on the way out the door in 10 minutes, and decided to double check my flights. Good thing I did, as my UA Express flight from Sacramento to SFO at 11 has been cancelled. I've been rerouted Sacramento to LAX on UA, and the LAX to SAN on American, and actually arrive right about the same time (2pm).
Looking forward to seeing everyone this weekend. |
