Houston FTers? Are you OK?
I'm a newbie, so please excuse me if this is an inappropriate post for this board
but---
...I noticed that ClassicalGal hasn't posted in a few days, and after hearing descriptions of the flood damage in and around HOU, I was hoping that she and other FTers in that area are safe and dry and with wordly possessions relatively unscathed.
Is everyone OK?
Aloha.

Here is a link to one of the more amazing photos (from the Houston Chronicle):

Tropical Storm Allison was definitely one of the worst to ever hit Houston - not too windy but LOTS of rain!

Yes, Lokahi, I'm alive and well...thanks for
asking! However, my car fared less well - got submerged and will be on the way to salvage ere long.
However, I'm still around and looking forward to my next visit to the beautiful islands of Hawaii (and other places)! Mahalo!

I live near IAH and there was some water dammage near the airport. The US Coast Guard made a few rescues of some girls out of a creek near the airport. A helocopter news crew picked up an emergency shipment of plasma and took it to a hospital down town for and emergency procedure. The plasma was stranded at the airport since there was no way to get to downtown Houston. I my self had to spend the night in my office. Absolutely no way to get home. (I did try but way too much water). Some of my friends and co-workers have lost everything. I had little water in my appartment. THe carpet was a little damp. My neighbors nearby had to clear their carpet out.
Wife works in Downtown Houston and she stated that Downtown has a lot of work that needs to be done.
My friends, we were not even hit with a Hurricane. A lot of us are blessed to just be alive. I believe that there has been on or about 20 deaths in Houston area but I am not certain as it is climbing. Some are due to highwater accidents, cars trying to cross in high water, alcoholics trying to brave highwater, and perhaps some patients not doing well with hospital transfers. (Some of our best Hospitals are closed due to flood dammage).
We will survive!! Thanks for your concern. Any and all help that can be given would be appreciated. Designate your help to Houston.

Thanks for the updates. Sorry to hear of the property losses, but glad to know everyone's OK.
I'm on my way to offer a small donation to the Red Cross at:
https://www.redcross.org/donate/donation-form.asp
for disaster relief...admitted not without self-interest, because we in Hawaii seem to be due for a hurricane, and if/when it strikes, we're going to need all the help we can get...

There were no flights in or out of this town on Saturday. When we flew back on Sunday we were expecting to see our car float towards us. It was fine, but a nearby lot was flooded. It is raining again right now!
20 families at my husband's office lost almost everything. Everyone knows someone that lost their car or home property to this historical event. Very sad. Our beautiful Wortham Center and Jones Music Hall have major damage and one Synagogue that was just renovated has over one million in damage. The Rabbi has a great sense of humor and simply said that God did not like the new colors they picked. All prayers and thoughts directed South are more than welcome!
