New User Intro and Chicago requests

I met a user of this web site on a flight a couple of weeks ago. So, I thought I would get online and say hello!
I'm flying to Chicago on Sunday and will finally stay at a downtown hotel instead of an airport hotel.
Any good dinner and/or bar recommendations?

Welcome to FlyerTalk, always_delayed! Let's hope your upcoming trip to the Windy City does not live up to your moniker.

There are many great places for dinner in Chicago. Do you know at which hotel you are staying and do you have a preference for a specific type of cuisine?

Welcome to Flyer Talk always_delayed.
Just a couple of friendly suggestions. You will get more responses to your question

by posting the question in the General TravelTalk forum.
Also some members of FlyerTalk also post their recommendation of dining places at the following site.

Thanks! My current delay record is every 3rd flight.
I am staying at the Palmer House Hilton and I perfer seafood, steak, chicken... the basics. I had a lovely meal at McCormick's the last time I was there, so you can take that one off the list.

Here are a few suggestions for starters. You can email me privately if you would like more ideas:

A friend told me just last week that he had always found Nick's Fishmarket (Clark & Monroe Streets) to be excellent but I have never eaten there. I have always enjoyed my dinners at Shaw's Crab House (21 E. Hubbard) and I know some people who have enjoyed their meals at the relatively new Joe's Seafood, Prime Steak and Stone Crab (60 E. Grand).

Now for steaks...many people in Chicago swear by Gibson's (1028 N. Rush St.) but others prefer Ruth's Chris, the Capital Grille or Magnum's.

If you're in the mood for Italian, I love Trattoria No. 10 (10 N. Dearborn) just a couple of blocks from the Palmer House and a place that specializes in ravioli (with other items on the menu). Even if you're not interested in a full meal there, they have a wonderful happy hour buffet where you can sample an array of their food for something like $1.00 plus a $5.00 drink minimum.

If you're interested in meeting up while you are in town, just drop me an email. It's always good to meet other FlyerTalkers!
