drive-by hotels

Dear Flyertalk Users,

National newspaper reporter seeks travelers who usually go by car and often (or sometimes) choose hotels from the road (as opposed to making a reservation). I'm interested in what influences your decision as you drive down the road--and how the hotel road sign makes you feel about a particular brand.

Thanks very much
