Gasp! It's a conspiracy!

I've been doing some ... research into people's posting patterns lately and the results I'm seeing are absolutely shocking! Unbelievable! I feel it's my responsibility as a member of this community to let it be known that there is a dark conspiracy going on within the hallowed halls of the FlyerTalk bulletin boards.

The Trend: double posts, triple posts, quadruple posts, 11 posts in a row of the same post! Over and over, the same thing, by the same FTer! Threads everywhere are being infected with the multi-post plague. These FTers, they allege it's because of some "system slowdown" in the FT servers or something... sure, blame the computer.

The Truth: The multiple posts are deliberate! People are doing this to inflate their post count and hence their perceived importance to FlyerTalk. Heck, what reasonable community member would not like to contribute more to elevate his or her importance to the community?

People are doing this all over FT. In every forum you can see the conspiracy. Pure evil. Just a few minutes ago I saw a thread where the same poster had some 15 or more repeat postings.

It's a conspiracy! Time for the truth to come out. Anyone have the phone number for the National Enquirer?

I hate to do this, but feel compelled.......the conspiracy of these types of posts lately have been the work of none other than 'The Freddie Awards." It seems that several programs have used their email membership lists to urge people to vote in this years Freddies, which many of them did, since it was only a click away. With the final Freddie Award ballot count to exceed 200,000 (last year was 104,000) and the fact that 'freddieawards.com' lives on the same server as this board, you can imagine the stress the server has been under (it has run in redline for more than two weeks now). We never knew if, when or where these email ballot surges might have been coming, so have endured the "brown out" of server capabilities and have for the last week had a person assigned to cleaning up the multiple posts. So, if any of you have exhibited this behavior in dire straights of inflating your post numbers, the truth is, you're about to be pruned back - sorry. Any besides, the more you post, the more expensive it is for me to offer the board to you - so please make sure it's worth the time of your fellow FlyerTalkers.......at least, make sure it's 2 cents worth.

So as Paul Harvey would say - now you know the rest of the story. But I do like the conspiracy theory. Actually, the conspiracy theory I like is the one that many of you have banded together to form a Denial Of Service campaign to keep me so busy sending people to timeout and addressing warnings, that you can sneek in to the House of Miles and have your own 20th Frequent Flyer Birthday Ball. Hey, it's just a rumor right? Tell me it's not true, please...... Cheers.

Randy, you beat me to it. I was about to post a message entitled" Amusements at Randy's Expense," citing the cost to you when your server capacity is overloaded by people making multiple posts, silly "faces" posts, nonsensical "Omini" posts, and, perhaps worst of all, Omni and News posts which are nothing more than Mayor LaGuardia reading the Sunday funnies to a listening public. This may have been a good idea in the 40's-certainly it was good politics for the Little Flower-but it is nothing more than a endless annoyance now.

So, let me suggest that you do the following soon: end Omni and News because they seldom have anything more than a remote relationship with travel; end as soon as humanly possible these idiotic "faces;" audit the number of
daily postings, perhaps weekly, which will hopefully cause the posters to respect their posting qualities; and, finally, cause every-one to re-register, using their same names if they choose, which should clean out many of the multiples.

I, for one, am sick and tired of the Oz controversy and want it to end. And I am sick and tired of silliness and stupid nothings like "funny faces, happy faces, sad faces" and the such in reply to other postings. See earlier posts on the forum for example.
