Dear FT Customer Support

Dear FT Customer Support:

I have recently completed my upgrade of FT 3.01 from my previous 2.01 version. I have to say I have experienced more frequent system crashes with each successive version. Version 6.00 was the last stable version I remember.

Invariably, the activity that seems to precipitate a new crash is a hangup where a certain character seems to keep repeating itself and cannot be deleted. Ultimately, my server is completely consumed with processing this incessant activity. I have looked for a application level self-control feature, which I believe would fix this problem, but cannot seem to find one in your add-ons. I would appreciate your assistance in this regard.

My choice would be to roll back to V 6.00, but I find the new friends feature set wont run on the older version.

Many of my friends have elected to delete the entire program. I think that is throwing the baby out with the bathwater since there is still great core value in the FT program. However, I do understand their desire not to continue to devote the time required to sort through the extraneous character insertions. Can you suggest a fix?

Dear FT Customer:

We have engineer-loaded a patch to v3.01 of FT which will deactivate the character you describe for a brief period. Our engineers indicate that this solution will allow all character functions to reset.

Unfortunately, we have been unable to map for the application level self control feature. The variables for such a feature are beyond our ability to address easily. We find with such a wide variety of operating systems and mneumonics in our customer base, an application level self-control feature cannot be envisioned at this point. Careful monitoring and immediate reload of the patch as described is our best solution at this point. We do have available single-user versions of self-control. These can be loaded at anytime and are compatible with all versions. We have found however, that an interface between users where one has self-control loaded and the other does not frequently seems to impair the capabilities of the user with self-control loaded.

Similarly, we have yet to implement an application level ignore function. However, just as in self-control, a machine-resident patch is available.

Our engineers are currently reviewing the logic rules and assumptions which underlie many of these functions. Our intent is to continue to refine the information access feature and to enhance the new friends feature set.. Both of these features are stable and provide the greatest value to the user. We strongly urge you to focus on these features and to run self-control when the character runaway problem you described occurs.
