What a sad day. He was a pistol and lived life to the fullest. Einar and I enjoyed our times with him at several Flyertalk events. We should all be so lucky to have his attitude. Condolences to his family. He will be missed.

I have been urged to come out of my self-imposed exile from FT to say a few words on behalf of my friend John Atteridg.
Brigitte and I met John through FT and began a correspondence that continued until just recently. We had many things in common and our mutual love of travel and insatiable thurst for new experiences and knowledge led us happily down many similar paths. He hosted us at his home in San Francisco and we him at ours in Montral and the talk was always lively and entertaining. He made no secret of the fact that he was seriously ill, but his tough and sinewy demeanour in the face of death led us to believe he was impervious to the ravages that the illness continued to throw his way. John often said that if he was to die prematurely, he would die doing the things he loved. He was right, but what he didn't count on was the big void that he would leave in the lives of those he touched. His departure from this physical plane of consciousness grieves us more than he would ever have imagined.
John, we love and miss you terribly.

The outpouring of love and concern for John and his family is amazing. Well, not really if you knew him. When I decided to notify FT of his death, I thought a few people who knew him well might want to know - I understand now why he spoke so highly of the people he met here. I told his mother about this response and I will be printing out all of your wishes to take to his family on Thursday - where I hope to meet some of you. I am Carol and John was a long time friend and my "ski-buddy". How will I tear up the slopes alone?? Where will I find such challenging conversation in the lift lines??

Carol,
When you pass on these messages to his family, please be sure they know that folks in Alaska are sorry to hear of their loss.
Sincerest regards,

wanderlust said it very, very well. The flyertalk community had been ever-growing for me since I was introduced to it last year, and to have it shrink is a shock to say the least.
My condolences to all relatives and friends,
Mark

If I may be so bold...
May I suggest that at the NYC get-together, a setting be reserved at a table for him. Considering how many events he attended over the year, I think this might be a fitting tribute.

Good idea, Jon Toner. I am sure many of us who met JohnA at one or another of these FT events will want to at least join in on a toast to a fine person.

I too was saddened to hear of Johna's passing.
I know he was eagerly awaiting the Brooklyn tour at the Catman Do in March.
I think it's appropriate to take a moment now to pray for his family and friends as they try to get through this very difficult time.
We'll miss you.

If we all were able to donate just the miles from our next domestic segment, I bet we could get enough miles on each of the five US majors for a domestic ticket or two on each that could be used by the charity mentioned in the announcement in johna's memory.
