What do you DO?

This is sort of an extention of the famous Who We All Are Threads...

As many of you know, I am but a "poor" high school student. I find biz travel, especially on a global scale, very glamourous, even though reading Flyertalk reminds me of all the woes you encounter daily.

I'm curious as to what you actually do. What jobs you have, and what you actually do on the road.

Let me give you an example, the father of a friend of mine (the only real road warrior I know...my father only does 60K/year).

He works for a Tampa-based firm that is in the cable business. They handle transactions between communications companies (If XXX Cable wants to sell YYY service to ZZZ Cable) and capital start-up in communications (if XXX wants to start a company that does ZZZ), and investment banking.

When he travels, he meets with the various cable companies, etc, gives their product a value, and brokers the sell. He works in domestic, but he used to work in int'l, which took him to the company offices in Tokyo, Dubai, Germany, and communications companies all over the globe.

So, what do you DO?

Thanks, BizJet

Actually, I'm a "doc"! Sometimes a consulting "doc"! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/eek.gif

Oh yeah, on the road I also "chat up" FA's, hotel employees and waitresses too! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

our healthcare consulting firm does the majority of its business in the Indian Subcontinent, Middle East, and East Africa.

Our primary businesses include design, construction, and operation of specialty hospitals and clinics / distribution and servicing of medical devices / provision of health insurance services to corporate clients.

At present I am Managing Director of our subsidiary in India and as such I get to travel a lot around the region as well back to my home in the States as well as to the offices/sites of our partners in Europe.

It's a very interesting yet challenging field which is experiencing tremendous growth at present. so for now it's still fun http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

ozstamps Aug 22, 2000 1:37 am

I sell rare stamps to stamp collectors, worldwide, and have done for 20 years. I run the largest stamp dealing business in Sydney. All done from Australia, hence the OZSTAMPS handle!

Work for myself, from home, and this allows the flexibility to jump on a plane whenever I see a decent vacation deal to somewhere I have not been, which is getting less and less places each year.

All stamp collectors have a passion for history and geography, so this careeer allows me to slot in a tiny bit of work, and a LOT of vacations to exotic places on earth!

I am a writer by profession and still write extensively for trade and collector journals, and have owned and published a few. I write summaries of recent trips, some of which are posted here :

I don't know if it counts for much, but I am an Executive Secretary for Kemper Insurance.

I am also a college student - trying to figure out just what it is that I want to do, I know that I would like to go in to something in computers, with ocassional travel, not too frequent though, cause I am a single mother too. Anyone got any ideas for me?

Is that enough? LOL
