Currently, I am AIDS Program Manager for The Academy of Medicine of NJ which adminsiters a State contract to do professional education on this topic to Healthcare professionals in NJ. This job includes scheduling 50 roving symposia a year and overseeing the publication of a monthly newsletter to 3,000 recipeints. The last job was more fun. I set up and adminstered about 50 live internet webcasts on cancer to both consumers and physicians, during a 4 month period. I got to talk to Lance Armstrong and had him as a participant. These programs are still archived if anyone is interested. The consumer site is at www.alphacancer.com and the professional site at www.alphaoncology.com
I am a pharmacist.

I'm a VP/Business Analyst for a major US Bank that used to be based on San Francisco, but is now based in Charlotte... guess which one! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

I telecommute to my office in Pleasant Hill, CA from my home in AZ, but they make me come to the office every month or so. Spent the last few years travelling, doing training, and getting business requirements for applications. Now, I'm involved in projects working on a NCR/Teradata platform.

Yes, just another techno-geek... but a self-taught one.

Schutzee Aug 25, 2000 8:43 pm

I own and operate a small independent insurance agency founded by my grandfather in 1923. Gramps retired in 1977 and passed away in 1987 at age 101. Dad joined the agency in 1949, and retired in 1993. In 1979 I went to help out for a week while Dad was on vacation. 21 years later I'm still here ! If I follow in Gramp's footsteps, I get to retire in 2047.

Larrude Aug 26, 2000 3:22 pm

Well, Schutzee is not alone here (as he already knows). I started (founded?) an insurance agency in 1974. I basically spend my working hours selling insurance, mutual funds, and annuities products. It's much more interesting than it sounds and yes, I dislike insurance agents as much as most of you do.

I had a client in the office the other afternoon - explained that we were in similar professions as far as the public liking us - - he is a dentist!

Regional Sales Manager for a company that manufactures medication/prescription control systems used in nursing homes, alzheimers units, assisted living, psychiatric, etc.

Most of my business flying takes me to exotic locales such as Spokane, Boise, Anchorage, Billings...yawn...you get the idea. Since my company is based in Omaha, I get to fly there a bunch of times each year too.

Of course, I also "work" for Mileage Workshop...the second best resource online for the frequent flyer (after Webflyer of course!)

1. Medical doctor and senior partner in a fairly large private practice outside of Oslo.
2. Basketball referee at our highest national level ("The League"), which is about 11 divisions below NBA/NCAA, but still a lot of fun.
3. Currently in contact with one of Norway's largest newspaper to work as a wine/food/restaurant critic part time.

Travel is divided between going to congresses, junkets, basketball games, and above all the pure pleasure of tourism/relaxing/dining! Most of it in Y, so any upgrade is coveted.

Then until the next show or concert series it's back to working part-time for a human rights research organization and doing freelance textbook and tradebook indexing.

SRQ Guy Sep 11, 2000 2:23 pm

I am a recently (15 months ago) graduated Materials Engineer from Georgia Tech. I am also the latest entrant in the family business that my step-father's father started in 1947. We manufacture epoxy materials (coatings, adhesives, etc.) for the concrete restoration industry and for the electric motor industry. Currently I travel occasionally for work(for trade shows, distributors' sales training seminars, and project consulting), but mostly just for pleasure. I plan on changing that, as it is my self-given goal to greatly expand our mostly domestic business overseas. I look forward to the day a few years down the road when I open a branch somewhere in Central America (haven't decided where yet), as it will be mine alone to get up and running, providing the temporary ex-pat life that I desire for the experience as well as the extra income.
