Positive Flyertalk Experiences

With all the negativity in recent weeks on some forums, I think it's time we all step back and think of the positives of this board. So I propose we list some of them here.

*They could be a great tip you got from someone (for me it's endless)

*Or a successful coupon exchange (One friend and I kept exchanging Healthy Choice certificates and both got miles we needed, another I just gave miles as a "thanks for helping out gift" and I had several fruitful coupon exchanges, getting even more -- from CO President's Club Pass to extra cat food coupons.

*Or making a new friend, or seeing a place you would not have seen with this new friend (I have been blessed with many friends whose names I won't mention for fear of hurting the feelings of the others.)

That's what I mean about positive experiences.

Anyone care to add??/

Or reading a nice post, like one of Catman's! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

Actually all the above apply in my case too often to mention! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Getting eaten by a bush at the PIP.

Very positive for me, not so good for the bush.

FT HAS ....

... made a difficult decision a lot easier.(giving up long-year-loyalty to UA's MP and switching to LH's M&M)

... given a lot of knowledge and tips on FF programs

... made me a lot more self conscious when talking, discussing, argueing with airline employees on rules, which I know from FT don't exist or are misinterpreted.

Thanks a lot yall.

flyme2 Jul 17, 2000 3:58 pm

How I've benefited:
  • New friends, both cyber and real.
  • Advice on earning more miles.
  • Leads on seat sales.
  • Far more FF knowledge than most airline employees.
  • The general civility of the board.
  • Being able to play a role in shaping the air and hotel programs.

It has been a most gratifying and rewarding journey, and I hope it continues!

Catman, like you, I wouldn't still be here if it weren't for all the positive experiences I've had here, and it is ALL because of the Flyertalkers I've met or look forward to meeting.

The latest example is logging on today, after possibly the worst travel day for me yesterday (trip report coming soon), and finding Catman back! I don't know of any other situation where a person I've never met can make my day.

dsimon Jul 17, 2000 5:02 pm

FlyerTalk has enabled me to "speak the language" with a lot more ease. This is the one place where I know that I can get accurate advice from people that I know have been in the same situations that I am in (or trying to avoid http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif).

I feel like I know a lot more about the industry now than I did before FT, and I only hope that the knowledge that I have gained here, I can help pass on to other people.

Thank you very much. Everybody.

-Enable me to plan my vacation last year
-extremely valuable information on new promotions
-Being welcomed to the board after my first posting.
-Being able to "hang out" with people who share the same obsession, I meant interest, on points and miles!

That's what makes this board a part of my everyday life.

mentos Jul 17, 2000 5:44 pm

I positively miss Baobab's contributions to this board.

Look up "classy lady" in the dictionary and you'll find her picture.

Lowfare Jul 17, 2000 5:59 pm

Welcome back Catman!

I think one of the positives for me is to get on the chat line and know you are welcome and have a common interest. The friendships we have made are a result of mutual respect and genuine caring of our fellow flyers.

I hope one day to be able to meet many of you personally.

dgolds Jul 17, 2000 7:15 pm

Welcome back, friend.

How about sharing meals with FT friends (old and new) and airport meetings while away on those long and sometimes lonely business trips. Thanks, Anna, Catman, Scott, violist, QuantumLeap, BostonJudy, Baobab, Randy, PG, and many others who don't come to mind immediately.

FT board has helped me immensely from being a consumer with little knowledge to being a very enthusiastic FF with lots of knowledge. THANK YOU EVERYONE

Being lucky enough to meet some of the most interesting and fun friends. Learning all the tricks of the trade from the masters, and most of all meeting so many of you. Welcome home Cat-dude, I'll se you in Sept with a roll of duct tape and a Sam Adam's. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

There are a million benefits. From never having heard of this website 6 weeks ago, I am now planning a 30,000 mile run for a weekend in Dusseldorf and/or Frankfurt Germany if the timing allows, on:
http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/Forum95/HTML/000474.html

and have just proposed an F.T. Around The World Flight for anyone interested, on the first One Airline (UA) operation to offer it this century on:
http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/Forum50/HTML/002428.html

Apart from other wonderful bits of input and great knowledge, I have just worked out how to completely and legally get myself upgraded and confirmed in my favourite seat 15B on a Jumbo from SYD-SFO-JFK-LHR in both directions (=30,000+ paid miles) for absolutely no cost to me instead of the 100,000 points it should have cost. All due to the superb input and advice of one board here, so the info to be learned and shared here is astounding to keen Frequent Flyers. Long may it reign, and long may the "Mileage Moron" type Trolls and his alter ego he seemed to change to soon afterwards, stay well away. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

kyklin Jul 17, 2000 9:43 pm

So I can explain to my wife what a "mileage run" is and that I am not the only nut doing it.

I appreciate the quality of the advice given freely on FT. We are truly a community bound by a common passion.

All the great stories and mileage tips. All the great people here. In spite of recent happenings, this is a very positive site.

Thanks all http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Library Dragon Jul 18, 2000 2:38 pm

Alot of the positives are the "little" tips that I've received. These ease travel in many ways.

raeban Jul 18, 2000 2:49 pm

So happy to see you back Mr. Limo http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Catman Jul 18, 2000 2:59 pm

Mr. Limo, I'm so happy you are back too. You were missed by eveyrone.

I really hope to see you sometime (maybe you can come to out vegas Aug 25-28!)

You were one of the bright lights of PIP and we would love you company again and again and again!

Randy Petersen Jul 18, 2000 6:02 pm

If you don't know, I'm the happiest person there is because of FT. All my experiences have been well above board. (Welcome back MRLIMO). My highlight was the PIP. Thinking back to the wonderful efforts of Punki, Rudi, Catman, PremEx and others, I thought the wonderful company of the dinner was the most enlightening experience I have had. Imagine, people flying miles from around the world to meet in Hawaii and celebrate the topic of miles and points...yes, I've had many wonderful experiences with this board, including the decision to continue to support it for what it's worth, and that's a lot of proven helpful information, not to mention some very, very classy people.

I'm very very new to this message board, but I'm glad that I found it.

One of the very first posts I read contained a very useful tip to me. I can only imagine what I can find if I keep reading FT.

I travel virtually nonstop and strive to make elite status in many airlines (yep, last year I made 5 airline elite status!) and it is nice to be able to share my passion with others.

I think I found my new home! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Punki Jul 18, 2000 9:38 pm

Welcome home, skydweller1.

See you in NYC. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Or, alternatively, being hosted by a generous FT'er in your fave getaway city ... http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif ... Great shared melas, Persian rug shopping, etc...

Catman, it feels like home again with you back.

I've earned thousands of extra miles with the advice/tips on this board. I also live vicariously through those who did the LatinPass and OneWorld (et al.) promotions and all the great trip reports.
