Your Favorite Flyertalk "moment"

I hope you all understand this post, it's in the vein of "what prompted you to post."

My Cat curiousity asks: what one moment during yoru time on Flyertalk really touched your heart, made you realize that this board and the people on it aren't so bad.

It can be a post that left you in hysterical laughter or a Flyertalker who helped you with a traveling questions or sent you an upgrade, or a special meeting with a Flyertalker, or a F-T Do that meant a lot to you.

I not only ahve one: I have four moments that stand out for me:

1. Meeting Rudi for the first time. (that's described under "when did you make your first post?" forum)

2. THE SECOND AND BIGGER CATMAN Do and PremEx presenting me with special "Cateau Blanchard" wine and specially made labels and a copy of the label framed (it's on teh wall around my growing Flyertalk gallery above my computer!) The defining moment: the two little bottles of wine for Yaz and Eddie (who drank both bottle and was one very tipsy kitty!) Yaz got the drops and stayed sober!

3. Giving the little gifts for all the attendees at the PIP. I was nervous the whole time until the dinner and once I got up to start the presentations, it's like this weight got lifted off my shoulders thanks to the smiles of all teh guests. From there I knew NOTHING was impossible (hense the Catman DO 2 came to be!)

4. The do's would not have been even attempted if it wasn't for my adopted kid bruddar and one of my bestest buddies wanderlust! He was the FIRST Flyertalker that I hosted in NYC, showed him around for his first visit on the Fourth of JULY. What he didn't know is I WAS ABSOLUTELY TERRIFIED OF PLAYING TOUR GUIDE TO A TOTAL STRANGER! But he had a terrific time, and at the Smith and WOllensky steakhouse wanderlust crowned me CATBASSADOR and thanked me for purrfect touring efforts and my genorsity and for taking a chance at hanging with him and maybe finding a new friend. I said back "I found more than just a friend. I found my kid brother and I was honored that HE could consider me as a friend."

I knew then that if I could host one Flyeratalker in NYC, I could host five or ten or even 40. Thanks wanderlust for being the test case for the Catbassador!

OK! All of this is mushy but Theresa says my heart is made of Kleenex!!

Catman thank you for the kind words and a great thread.

For me, my favorite FlyerTalk moment is always the one that just happened.

I may think of more later on, but the ones that jump into my mind are:

1)Reading a tip from UserMark on a secret AA promotion last summer that resulted in over 19,000 bonus miles for myself and my family;

2)Spending a really enjoyable day in NYC with Catman this past spring;

3)My first FT get together last fall, at the Disneyland Hotel, where I met the initial bunch of FT'ers in person and received an official FT luggage tag from Old Gold.

I may think of more, but these are "highlights" for me!

My favorite FlyerTalk moment was the entire PIP EXPRESS flight.

It is still hard to believe that we had the entire upstairs area of the 747. The dancing, the drinking and the disco lights.

Wow!

Walking (late) into the big dinner at the PiP and seeing all those flyertalkers, and feeling that warm reception...then walking around to each table and saying hello to everyone.

Right up there: A wonderful boston evening...

WORST MOMENT ON F-T: Giving up my seat upstairs on the PiP Express (thanks for reminding me, Wingless but

I have to say that one of my many favorite FT moments is being on the upper deck of the PiP flight. Talk about a party flight!

Ok, ok! By several email requests, a couple of related links:

AustWingNutz reference to The PIP Express.

and...

Catman's reference to his private Catman Deux Cteau Blanchard wine label.

NJDavid, that's a classic.

You know, with all of this stuff we have the makings of a great movie..

Like "A year in the Life of Flyertalk."

Of course, Ben Afflick plays moi!

(And if anyone else says Nathan Lane for me I'll slug you!)

at this time: whenever - after the usual 'connection-time' crisis every Wednesday - Flyertalk 'responds' fast again.

In general: the way some Flyertalk-'oldies' managed in the early days to make this board entertaining, fun, informativ, gentlemen/-women-like ... and at the same time how 'we' managed to limit 'flamings' and 'trolls' to a reasonable minimum.

past: (very personal) the reactions and contacts of so many Flyertalk-colleagues and Webflyer-personnel, when/after the SR-crash happened in early September 1998 as the travel dates (but fortunately not the carrier: we flew LH JFK-FRA-ZRH) for our return-trip from New York to Zrich (Gisela and I) were the same.

Maybe we need a Flyertalk "historian" to record all of the best stuff (and maybe some of the worst) for a future book on the board.

Brother Rudi: I had a panic attack when work called and said "this SwissAir flight crashed after leaving Kennedy." I could not remember if you were on that flight or not and YES I PRAYED and I had all my friends pray even though they never met you (although they knew you both from the way I described you both to them)

That showed we truly are a family with quirks and concerns.
