"Bump" reward

Not sure if this is the right place to go with this since I'm a new member but...
last summer, I volunteered to be bumped off a United flight and got $100 in certificates to be used for my next flight with them. They expired in a year so I thought no problem - I take enough flights to use this.

Anyway, now 10 months later I have not taken a United flight and does not seem I will in the next 2 months. I'd like to do something with this certificate but don't know what my options might be - trade it with someone else, call United and get some extension, sell it, etc.

Anyone out there have experience with something like this and can provide some guidance would be greatly appreciated - I sure don't like the idea of throwing $100 dollars down the drain.

Thanks!!

I'd try Coupon Connection, Ebay or charity!

Another possibility is to write to United and politely inquire about an extension. They do, sometimes.

Welcome to the board, David.

Keep in mind that you don't necessary have to take the flight within the next two months - all you have to do is book (and pay for) the ticket - so if you already know where you're heading for Thanksgiving or something like that you could go ahead and book the ticket now to use the certificate.

For future reference, the FlyerTalk Community part of the board is used more as a "homeroom", for FTers to discuss meeting in "reallife" and things related to the, well, um, community. Your question might have fit better in General Traveltalk or better still the United forum, where you might get responses from people who've been in a similar situation.

But no harm done by posting in here tho; just keep hanging around and you'll quickly learn what to post where.
