Multi hub flying

When I much younger,a teen(so long ago). To build miles I used to go through as many hubs as possible, for example:
1.AUS-DFW-ORD-BWI
2.AUS-DEN-ORD-DET
3.AUS-DFW-ATL-CVG-WAS(you had to start out early in the morning for this and pray that there is clear weather across the country.)

Again, that was long ago, today time dictates nonstop flights when possible. My question is whoelse have done the same? Or continues.

well my last year mileage run in sep-99 round-the-world had three purposes:[*]preorganisation of the Nov PIP with tropicalflyer and Premex in Honolulu[*]some (final) days at the US Tennis Open in New York[*]making LH Senator

the trip was: ZRH-MUC-FRA-SIN-BKK-HKG-SYD-HNL-YVR-SEA-SFO-SNA-LAX-MCO-LAX-SNA-LAX-JFK-FRA-ZRH

but sure the trip finally also included:[*]a get together with SIN-flyer in Singapore[*]a circus visit with Punki's family in Seattle[*]a FlyerTalk-get-together in San Francisco[*]an evening with Premex and wingless in Disneyland, Anaheim[*]a three day Disney World program (and cirque du soleil) with onefreeman and Raeban in Orlando[*]a Flyer Talk get-together in Orange County[*]a FlyerTalk breakfast in New York (the Pierre)[*]a visit to the US Tennis Open with Catman[*]the Jet's season-opener NFL game

And then there was one of my all time favorite FlyerTalk itineraries: San Francisco to Pittsburgh via Munich (by Scott the Flier). More miles, cheaper fare than going direct.

My mileage boosting way of going to Brazil:

BOS - ATL - LGW - ATL - GIG - ATL - LGW - ATL - BOS

Mad, quite possibly; but it'll get me to Plat. for next year.

Plus my ticket is $200 cheaper than what DL wanted to charge me for just BOS - ATL - GIG - ATL - BOS

As per the PIT thing, not surprising. My friend flew from SFO-LGW-PIT-SFO for about the same as SFO-PIT on its own.

Sometimes it really sucks to be in a fortress hub!

Hello, I started my mileage/segment run career in college as well, but have not stopped yet. I use it to maintain my elite status, to get extra miles, and it can be interesting people watching. Though it can also be very tiring. A couple of favorites from 1999:
CO BOS-EWR-DTW-CLE-ATL (for about $65 each way!)
NW: BOS-DTW-ORD-MSP-DFW.
I like the idea of a video trip report...which I have not read yet, but somebody posted it. Might be interesting to do a trip report, say, with a mini disk recorder as well.
I don't think I could stand an international mileage run in coach...usually I upgrade my domestic mileage runs.
Agents have told me it is at least somewhat common as year ends. Also years ago on US:
BOS-LGA-DCA-PIT-CLE or variations of that.

Yeh, I admit it: there's not much difference between sitting in my office and editing a book and sitting on a plane and doing the same thing. The itinerary that will guarantee my continuing 1K status is going to be BOS-IAD-BWI-ORD-STL-ORD-PHX-DEN-BWI-IAD-BOS. The only real stops are STL and PHX, although I will stop over and see friends various other places.

I travel a lot between BOS-DFW and DFW-SFO. I am taking UA to reach 1K so I always have to stop through ORD (for BOS-DFW) and through DEN (for DFW-SFO). For the latter flight, UA does have 1 direct flight per day, but the time is inconvenient for me. I could easily take direct flights on AA and DL but I will do this until I make 1K in a few weeks!

I was on ABC Worldnews last year for my travels to keep the miles. I flew:

MCO - MIA - ORD - IND - ORD - DFW - DEN in one day then four months later I flew:

IND - ORD - DFW - SFO - MIA stayed overnight in a Radisson (2000 AA Miles for the stay) then 7 hours later:

MIA - SFO - DFW - ORD - IND

Also 2 weeks later:

IND - DFW - SFO - ORD - ARN

All for the Platinum Run!

I'd be interested in knowing what the fares were on some of those interesting itineraries.

My own bit to add: I've got PHX-IAH-CLE-CRW-CLE-PHX coming up. Adding the IAH stop actually made the ticket about 350 instead of about 600.

I was considering a PHX-EWR-IND-EWR-PHX for later in the year (red-eye out) but may have to look into adding a CLE and/or DTW to it!
