Rudi is SFO? Does this call for a party?
Looks to me like Rudi will will be in SFO on 1/16/00. Does this require a celebration?
|
Celebrations, like Paris, are ALWAYS a good idea. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif
|
No doubt about it!! I like the Top of the Mark - they would certainly be amazed to see Rudi and all of us again! He was a big hit!!
|
Ahh, this is what I like to see...a group with a low "Let's have a party!" threshold http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif
|
Definately. The least we can do is take his mind off the fact that the 49ers are not playing.
|
Rudi, would you please verify the date.

Sun(ny)day, january-16 2000

I'd love the meet the infamous Rudy and lovely Gisela... count me in http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif . Missed them the last time they were in town.

I'm up for it (did you need to ask)? And very much looking forward to meeting Gisela for the first time.
I may be flying out that day, in which case it will be a very short appearance. QuantumLeap: "Low party threshold," I like that! [This message has been edited by dgolds (edited 11-26-1999).] |
Have a good time everyone!
Sadly, I have to pass. If I'm going to get off for the Vegas SUperbowl weekend, I"m going to have to work Martin Luther King's Birthday and get the comp day. But take pictures and drink a PEPSI for me! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif |
Anybody have any wonderful ideas about what we should do?
I can get there at 10:20 am and will probably spend the night at the Marriott Airport--more fabulous AARP rates. Karen? David? John? Suggestions for this party? How about Letiole and Zach. (I want him to tell me more about mailboxes!) http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif [This message has been edited by Punki (edited 11-26-1999).] |
I've lived in the San Francisco Bay Area almost all my life but have never been to the Top of the Mark. This could be a fun excuse to check it out....
|
Count us (letiole, Zach/Twiz) in!
Zach really wants to meet you, Punki. He got a kick out of your emails. He has a few more inventions up his sleeve. My husband will be off work in the afternoon. If anyone is interested in going sailing (and if it's not raining), we could take six or so people out on our sailboat and cruise the cityfront. |
I wanted to surprise my wife, Brigitte with a trip to SFO to meet some FT'ers (Punki, Rudi and Gisela, esp.) and prove to her, once and for all, that they really do exist and we're not part of a doomsday cult. However, a last minute trip to HKG has thrown a spanner into the works. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif
I'm still trying for MSY in February or SEA (sometime earlier to talk to Punki about the FAQ among other things). We are a flighty lot aren't we. Rick |
Hmmmmm....I'll definitely have to check my schedule on this one.
|
Wingless and I will try to make it and combine it with a few days staying overnight with our friends at De Loach Vinyards. But too early to tell if she can get off work that weekend.
|
If I'm in town (which at this point it looks like I will be), I'm up for it!
Afternoon/early evening in town would work (and give Rudi time to get back to the airport), or perhaps an afternoon activity in town and an evening dinner closer to the airport? |
If I'm in town that Sunday put me down also, always fun to meet Rudi and to party down.
Cheers Scott |
for years we wanted to go to the (musical/travestie-show) Beach Blanket Babylon at the Club Fugazi, 678 Beach Blanket Babylon Blvd.,San Francisco, CA - but we never managed (either they were sold out weeks in advance or they didn't play on Sunday evenings - they do now in december - I am not sure about january-16-2000 yet?).
We could go there either before dinner (show at 3PM) of after an early dinner (show at 7PM). [This message has been edited by Rudi (edited 12-13-1999).] |
dgolds, dinner near the airport??? What a challenge. How was the Chinese feast I missed? Would you recommend it for this group? Are you the designated party organizer again? Here we go with a Sunday night restaurant open issue...I have never been to Beach Blanket either. What a hoot!
Count Einar and me in. Who is the official counter? Let's start adding up the party goers. Welcome to SF, Rudi and Gisela! How about Sunday brunch at the Top of the Mark? Say 1 PM We could pick Rudi and Gisela up en route. |
My neighbor is the office manager for Beach Blanket Babylon. I could possibly coordinate reservations for this if we get a definite count and which show time.
|
letiole: A friend who works for BBB? Cool! I saw it last year (for the 2nd time) and really enjoyed it.
Rudi, just to clarify, is it Saturday, Jan 16th, or Sunday Jan 17th that you and Gisela will be in town? BTW 49'ers vs. Redskins coming up in a week and a half, very much looking forward to it. |
Hey dgolds I made the same mistake the first time I looked at my calendar. Then I realized it is in the next millenium. Whoops, checked my next year calendar and,lo and behold, Sunday is the 16th.
Glad to see I am not the only one who did that. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif BBB sounds fun. A couple of years ago an industry friend of mine hired some of the BBB staff to work as Booth Babes in a trade show in SFO. I have another very sweet, very naive friend from Indiana who was at the show and still raves about the amazing chicks that staffed the booth. He doesn't have a clue, and, as far as I know, everybody has decided it is more fun not to clue him in. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif [This message has been edited by Punki (edited 12-13-1999).] |
Sunday, jan-16-2000
arriving from MEX at 10:37AM (UA 1010) departing to SYD at 23:15PM (UA 863) (no boarding pass and luggage problems, will check trough MEX-SFO-SYD-BNE-CNS in MEX, so we easily can take the Sam Trans Express bus to downtown). can one of you local SFO friends please check if they play really in january on this Sunday, sixteenth (3PM? and 7PM?) |
I will call later in the week. I tried today but the theater is dark Mondays and the machine said the regular schedule would resume Jan 7 and include Sundays at 3 and 7. My vote would be for the Sunday matinee and dinner later. I think the 7 PM show could be tight. Rudi and Gisela do have an international flight to check in for. Anyone for brunch at the Mark first???
|
|
thank you PremEx. Let's become concrete on this:
[*]a Sunday Brunch in downtown SFO (if they really serve a brunch at the 'top of the Mark', why not?): karen2?[*]the 3PM show (letiole - can you please try to get detailed informations about our possibilities for tickets/sitting-together-arrangements?)[*]cocktails/beers/Pepsis somewhere (where?)[*]dinner somewhere (where?)[*]farewell with big >>>>>flyertalker<<<<<'s (copyright by punki) |
Punki just emailed me and asking how many arrows Willy Tell intends to shoot.
So I correct it into the original, copyright by Punki: <<<<<<<<<<Flyertalke r>>>>>>>>>> |
Hey, Punki and Rudi, thanks for the date clarification. That's my first year 2000 problem. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif
I doubt if I will be able to make it due to work-related travel; I really won't be able to confirm until the week before. But perhaps I can be Rudi's welcoming party at SFO... |
Well, that let's dgolds out as the party planner - and he did such a good job last time! Where to dinner is the main issue now - in SF or near the airport. The airport is not exactly a gourmet haven. I think the Mark does have Sunday Brunch because I think that was the first mistaken price quote we got last time when someone thought the Mark had a $30 some dollar charge. I can check it out. The Hilton also has an awesome brunch atop its hotel. Mind you, none of the SF brunches are cheap - so speak up attendees if you have alternatives. The most romantic brunch is at the Sheraton Palace in the Garden Court.
|
I confirmed that there is a brunch at the Top of the Mark - from 10 AM to 230 PM. I have e-mailed them for cost and parking validation!
|
thank you karen2 http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif
(if that fails - I have been at a incredible, enorme, huge, sunday midday champagen-buffet at the SFO airport Hyatt a year ago - but that wouldn't provide the local touch/feeling of downtown San Francisco). (can a cable car be rented as a private buffet car? I can in Zurich ...) |
I'm checking on BBB. Will let you know soon. Do we have an estimate of number of people? I'm guessing between 12-18???
|
Will my buddy Twiz be able to make it to any part of this adventure?
|
letiole: I now guarantee for the first 12 tickets, 3PM performance.
|
Punki: Absolutely! Twiz - short for theaterwiz - is not one to miss a show!
OK Rudi, 12 for sure. How about we get a count going to make sure no one who wants to go is left out. Please let me know ASAP if you're in for Beach Blanket Babylon 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 16. |
I haven't been able to talk to my neighbor yet, but according to the ticket folks at Beach Blanket Babylon the 3 p.m. show on Jan. 16 is already sold out.
At the 7 p.m. show there are seats available for a group as large as 20 or so to sit together. Cocktail theater seating up front is $36; cocktail seating in the rear is $30 and center balcony is $33. All tickets have a $2 service charge. The show is about 90 minutes long, so I don't know if the evening show would cut it too close for Rudi and Gisela. |
aren't we (swiss) fast deciders: I guarantee for 12 EVENING (7PM) tickets - please letiole - thank you!
We (Gisela and I) don't have to be at the airport before 10:30PM (the flight leaves at 11:15PM and we will get the boarding passes already in the morning when leaving MEX - and the luggage will be checked through too). |
... 12 front seatings please.
