We are in for the 7 PM show also - two tickets, please. I got an e-mail from the Top of the Mark. Their Sunday buffet brunch is $39 (!) without champagne or gratuity. Parking is $5 for 3 hours, only if garage has space. They want a credit card guarantee for a group. I am not willing to put that kind of money on my card since people's plans change. I agree with Rudi about the Hyatt. I have no idea what it costs now but the last time we were there it was great. Not out of the way for us but could be for others. With Beach Blanket at 7, we will want to eat an early dinner in the city. A heavy brunch will be a problem. Ideas for afternoon?

Rudi Dec 16, 1999 1:43 am

letiole (thank you) just informs me by email:

We need to pay for the tickets right
away using either a Visa or MasterCard. They won't hold them even for a couple of hours. They will accept orders by fax. The fax number is 415-421-4817. Would you be able to fax them your credit card number for the 12 tickets? For cocktail theater seating up front that would be $36 per ticket plus $2 each service charge.
so - if you want to join please buy/fax individually and inform us here on Flyertalkboard. See you in San Francisco.

Punki Dec 16, 1999 2:55 am

If we book individually, will we all be assured of sitting together? Do we have some sort of party code?

I just recently discovered that I need to be in Washington D.C. on the Friday and Saturday just previous, but am scrambling to figure out a way to finish early enough on Saturday to fly back through SFO and meet you all. Even if I can't change my existing routing and have to fly DCA/SEA/SFO/SEA to do it.

PremEx Dec 16, 1999 3:35 am

I'll be skipping the show. I've seen it several times already and twice just recently, the second time being a bit painful to sit through. But I'm still going to try make it for the brunch, etc.

l etoile Dec 16, 1999 7:25 am

The seating is not pre-assigned, although sections are. The plan is to buy the cocktail theater seating, center front. $36 per ticket plus $2 service fee. To order by phone, it's 415-421-4222. If you want to go, I'd suggest ordering ASAP as they do sell out quickly.

The doors open an hour early for people to get their seats.

Just talked with my neighbor, she says to sit together we will all have to get there early. They don't have any reserved signs and they won't let a couple of people save spaces for the rest. But I suppose there are worse things than sitting in a lounge having cocktails for an hour before a show. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

So who's in? Anyone buy their tickets?

Karen2 Dec 16, 1999 12:14 pm

Does this mean that Rudi is NOT buying 12 tickets??? Just want to confirm. It is safer for Rudi just to let everyone buy their own. If Rudi has already bought 12, I will buy from him. No news on the other brunches so far. God forbid, I may have to actually pick up a phone and dial!! Let's have some feedback on food, given that a number of us plan to attend Beach Blanket at 7 PM.

Rudi Dec 16, 1999 12:32 pm

Karen2 - everybody buys tickets him-/her-/themselves now - please. And for the brunch, let's wait until the first day of january 2000 to become concrete and make reservations.

Karen2 Dec 18, 1999 12:56 am

Rudi, did you get tickets yet? Also, who else is attending Beach Blanket?

Rudi Dec 19, 1999 12:00 pm

karen2: so far 3 of us, punki, Gisela and I (Rudi), have confirmed tickets ($36+2) for that 7PM performance. And we will be at the door before 6PM (opens) to get the best available table. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Karen2 Dec 20, 1999 1:38 pm

Almost right, Rudi! I contacted Punki and also bought our own tickets. We are all in the front caberet seats for $36 plus $2 service charge, Sunday, January 16 at 7 PM. For those who want to join us, better reserve now. Letiole has all the instrucions. Let's start amassing names for the grand event.

Heard back from the Sheraton Palace. They have Sunday brunch from 1130 to 130 in the Garden Court, $36/person inc sparkling wine. Parking is wildly expensive with $5 off for having brunch ($8 for 1st hr, $3 for each HALF hour after).

johna Dec 24, 1999 11:41 pm

I'll pass on BBB, but will look forward to brunch with the gang (unless, of course, United comes up with a fantastic e-fare for that weekend!).

auh2o Dec 25, 1999 7:45 pm

No BBB for me either. But food (and drink) are always welcome in my stomach.

Scott the flier Dec 30, 1999 10:27 am

Still too early for me to tell but it would only be for brunch anyway, because if I'm not already gone I soon would be.

Cheers Scott

Nanook Jan 1, 2000 7:53 pm

Since I missed the last RudiAbend, I intend not to miss this one. I definitely can't do BBB (have to get home to let my doggy out), but can come up from San Jose for brunch. I can even pick someone up at the airport, if need be.
It will be good to finally meet Rudi, and Gisela too, who must be some sort of Saint.

I just hope we don't have an open house that weekend--our house is up for sale (anyone interested?) for our upcoming move to Santa Monica.

Karen2 Jan 5, 2000 6:28 pm

Nanook, Unless you are the real estate agent, you will be thrown out of your house for the open house anyway.

Time to get organized: Rudi - it is your party! What do you want to do about food??? Brunch (airport or SF proper)? Early dinner? Both? Neither???

Rudi Jan 6, 2000 12:56 am

Ijust looked through all postings so far and I count:

for Beach Blanket Babylon, Sunday, jan-16-99[*]karen2 & Einar = 2 (do you have confirmed tickets?)[*]Punki = 1[*]Gisela & Rudi = 2
Total of 5

interested in a meeting (brunch and/or drinks and/or ...) Sunday, january-16, brunch-time till about 5:30PM:
the 5 mentioned above (karen2, Einar, Punki, Gisela, Rudi)
Nanook = 1?
auh20 = 1?
Premex = 1?
danville 1K = 1?

showed interest but undecided yet:[*]Scott the Flyer[*]dgolds[*]letiole[*]pshuang[*]TravelWeary[*]johna

Meeting before brunch: we (Gisela and I) will meet karen2, Einar and Punki after arrival at the SFO-airport-Marriott at about 11:30AM (Punki, who will be staying at this Marriott: will you prefer to have a nap at that time or do you join our transfer to the brunch-place?)

Brunch-place: My proposition: Top of the Mark - it is a good place also for those not intending to brunch but only joining the party at any time for (a) drink(s) and for spending some time afterwards together in downtown San Francisco. Karen2: I think we would take no risk to start with a definite reservation for 5 - and anyone wanting to join for bruch would call the Mark afterwards and add his name to our reservation (if that is doable and acceptable for the Mark-people?) - and if the allow us to arrive between just before 1PM (and if they serve brunch till 3PM?). If this is not possible, than I would propose the (SFO-airport) Hyatt, which served us an incredible large brunch selection a year ago (I hope they still do the same, and changes of reservations seem to be an easy thing there).

After brunch may be we can splitt the party into [*]those interested in drinking/watching football (definitly Rudi) - any good sports-bar-suggestion?[*]the shoppers (definitly Gisela)

What do you think? karen2, can you - please - ask at the Mark and make the decision afterwards?

We are looking forward very much http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Punki Jan 6, 2000 7:51 am

Hi Rudi, et al.

Actually my plane comes in at 10:12 a.m. from Seattle, so no nap will be required and I should be able to hook up with you and Gisela at the airport. Brunch anywhere is terrific with me. My required New Year's loss of (originally) 23 (now down to 21 pounds), demands that I focus on the company, not the food or drink. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif (I am so jealous of you, eat-all-you-want skinny types.)

I am also definitely on the shopping list. Yesterday my Russian daughter had a legal wedding ceremony at court and will have a religious ceremonoy on the January 22nd. They tell me that I am required to have a "plum" dress. What is plum?? Whatever it is, San Francisco must sell it. Maybe they will give me PMS number.

Karen2 Jan 6, 2000 11:28 pm

I checked into the Hyatt at SFO. Brunch is $29.95 each with 3 hours of free parking. I am suggesting 1 PM to allow Rudi and Gisela time to arrive (allowance for potential slight lateness! - Mexico time), get settled at the Marriott and back over to the Hyatt. We need 8 for a reserved time or we will cool our collective heels with the others in line. Since several want to join from South Bay, I propose the San Francisco Airport Hyatt, Burlingame as a better location than the Mark, esp since some cannot play all day.

So, let's hear who wants to be in on the reservation! I will be happy to contact the Hyatt with the final count.

Nanook Jan 7, 2000 4:48 pm

I definitely will be there--see you at the Hyatt SF Airport at 1:00 pm. Can't wait.
