MINI NYC get together
To welcome GEO1004 to NYC and to have another great excuse for steak and wine
October 29th, 7pm at Sparks on Second Avenue (I have NOT been here so this will be a treat for me!)
I have made reservations for FOUR, but in the likelyhood I get more than four then I'll add on.
Looking forward to seeing you Geo1004 on Friday!

Sorry Samantha. There is a Krispy Kreme FACTORY and store about 3 miles south of my house. You can actually look through a window from the outside and watch those freshly baked delectable treats roll down the assembly line and through a waterfall of creme!!! They do not get any fresher than that!!!! Coffee ain't too bad either.

I don't know! That was about 10 years ago already. We're talking about a very young guy here!
BTW- Think you'll like Sparks, since it's very similar to The Palm. Perhaps a bit more tidy environs, being somewaht less casual! What, no sawdust?

Glad to hear it was a clever pun rather than simply an accident! Are you coming early for the parade downtown through the Canyon of Heroes? It's a "once in a lifetime experience" you know! Unless you're a Yankee. That's unless you are Roger Clemmons!

I'm avoiding the yankee parade because I can't deal with wall to wall crowds. I can wait for the movie "The Yankees Miracle" with Newt Gingrich as George Steinbrenner and a fatter Kevin costner as Roget Clemens.
On another and more fun note: It was a pleasure to see Mweiss again. We had a nice dinner at the West Bank Cafe Wednesday night (that place already knows me so well the greeter says "OH bring all your friends here.") That would take about a year.
Mweiss and I had good talks, good stories and he was a bit stunned when named to the Acting CMDR CATCOP COmmittee. Well I said I only want the best and brightest (so I don't have to turn to arturo and ho hum, no offense, just I don't thik u all can handel all da responsabilities.

The NYC mini-gathering was a rousing success!!!
Catman and I met at the Marriott World Trade Center. I was proptly presented with a tie for my birthday present!!!! Blue and green with a vineyard pattern. It is now my official neckware for F/T mini-gatherings! We then decided to take care of the most pressing concern which was, of course, thirst. Up the elevator to Windows on the World... and a couple of Sam Adams to remove any remaining edge of the work week from our dispositions. (By the way, for those of you with no plans for the Millenium celebration, you could empty your retirement account and spend an evening there high atop NYC. I predict it will be cloudy that night so I'm going to pass). Anyway, 7 pm approached so it was off to Sparks for dinner. We were seated immediately and somehow some gin was mixed with some tonic and some limes fell in with the ice and then these heavenly concoctions were delivered to our table. Aaaaaah! (Side note: We noticed several single diners around us enjoying meals... our server informed us that single diners were common and not frowned upon at Sparks).
Catman and I both ordered the sirloin (well done and medium rare, respectively...) and two side orders: spinach and hash browns (the steak house standards). Upon arrival, the sirloins were more like NY Strips, that is to say, very flavorful and juicy. These guys know steaks. Washed down with a Markham merlot, we were very pleased with Sparks. Out the door and around the corner we found ourselves at the Whiskey Blue bar at the W Hotel. Another G&T, and a lovely view of the beautiful hostess behind the bar. Then back to the Marriott for some shut eye before a Shuttle flight back to DCA the next morning.
Three cheers for Catman and his now legendary hosting capabilities!!!
Cheers

Geo1004 good buddy, I'm so glad that you were able to spend some time with me and introduce me to one of the best steakhouses out there: Sparks! I'm glad they serve singles, becuase Hey, there are folks like me who can't be lucky like the rest of you to have significant others and families.
Sparks is worth a trip. I know Ruth's always has a special place in my heart (or should I stay stomach) but next time someone's up for steak in NYC... I'll take you here!
Think of wonderful meals at the PIP!
