I'm relatively good at this kind of thing. I ran (with help of course) a high school reunion (10yr) and family stuff as well.

I feel that Florida, being a destination resort area, as is Hawaii, that this might qualify for a bigger rather than a mini get-together.

Unless there are any strong objections, Orlando is the location that would have the most appeal.

Since Orlando is a family resort, how many of you would bring kids, or should this not include children? If kids are ok and you might feel left out if you dont have any, I can try to arrange something at Blockbuster for a 3 day rental http://talk.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

The only remaing issue is the date. I'll ponder for awhile

We keep bouncing back and forth between south Florida and Orlando. Is my geography outdated? I vote for Orlando, but after the PIP.

Nope, your geography is fine. After living in (Southern) Florida for 25+ years it seems like everything from Orlando south is South Florida and everything north of that is part of Georgia and Alabama! http://talk.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

NJDavid, are you suggesting that we change the name of the PIP to the DIP (Disaster In Paradise)? And TolarianWind, kids!? Kids have absolutly no business whatsoever being at Disney World (don't quote me on that)! As one of the people on the PIP committee, I can be the first to day that the PIP will NEVER be a DIP with all of us there and me providing comic relief.

On another issue... I'm getting the consensus that Orlando's the frontrunner for this second PIP. I would LOVE Key West but maybe I need to go back to Orlando since I haven't been to Disneyworld in 19 years (I guess they added an attraction or two since I was there!) http://talk.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

I realize one could loosely connect Hawaii and Florida as "destination resort areas" but the connection doesn't stretch very far.

Perhaps I am off-base here but Orlando is just another US metropolis with some resorts thrown in. This is paradise? And the thought of Disney-hell, Universal Line Studios, et al, makes me want to spew forth on the merits of retroactive abortion...

I'm all for a second PiP (with reservations concerning the structure of such an event). But please don't EVER call an event held in MCO a PiP event -- the second "P" stands for "paradise" folks and MCO ain't it...

onefreeman, Could you be a little more specific on how you really feel about Orlando?

I would love the Keys, or Southern West Coast (Captiva) or East Coast (Miami Beach)-- but have had some super times in Orlando as well. (Even on business trips.)

Personally, I have no objections and would certainly welcome a "get together somewhere in South Florida" at any time. Please keep me advised, Tolarian Wind. However, I strongly object, at this early stage, to designating this as the second PiP, for several obvious reasons, some of which have been stated on this thread.

I believe we are jumping way ahead of ourselves. I would prefer to see the location determined after a critique of the PiP in November along with input and comments from the various members of our bulletin board.

Let's slow down, at this time, with the planning of PiP II to ensure a more successful and rewarding "Paradise" II for us all. See you in November, if not sooner!

Be in Orlando in October (9th-14).

Epcot is the only place we will visit this year! Good places for small to medium groups to meet. Space for little ones, but not at the bAr! Lots of interesting things to do and can take up to 3 days!

Other nice places in Southern Florida include: Hilton Head, the World Zoo near Luke AFB, the tea gardens outside of Sydney, the wild animal park in San Diego, AND for onefreeman, the Sea Life park on Oahu, and nene/silverword hunting on Haleakala...woops, got carried away

I never said this was going to be a PIP. I started this thread asking if anyone was interested in having a get-together in florida.

It appears that people are. I asked for input because I felt it was important to include as many opinions as possible.

Tolarian Wind... I never looked at this as a second Party in paradise... I saw it as an escuse to go to Florida (and maybe use some of my building Delta miles!)

Let me be the fifth to suggestion that we DO NOT THINK ABOUT PIP DUX (2) until we all get through PIP 1 (Which I am already predicting will be the best party I ever attended -- though I haven't been to many parties! http://talk.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif

Since this is going to be a FT get-together (NOT PiP 2), Orlando would be a good place to meet. As for the date, my suggestion would be June or July 2000.

I vote for July -- more humidity and more kids!!!!!!!

Actually, for the benefit of Catman and all parrotheads, Universal is opening up today, their new Islands of Adventure there in Orlando and at their CityWalk (like Disney Village) they have among many things, a real Jimmy Buffet Margaritaville restaurant, bar and gift shop, apparently offered up by Mr. Jimmy himself. So, if Orlando is the chosen land, you really can enjoy a little change in latitude.....
