Dinner in Denver

dgolds is going to be in Denver for a week of work the first week of August. [I'm here for weeks of work all the time http://talk.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif] We're talking about picking one of those weekday nights for dinner. Any other of you voyagers passing through that week? In a pinch, I could be free any night, but if possible would prefer to avoid Wedsnesday, since I have a class.

bryan at webflyer Jul 21, 1999 7:59 pm

Count me in for either Thursday or Friday (Aug. 5-6?). No preference. Come to think of it, maybe I can convince some of the other "webflyer" boys and girls to join us. We're an hour south of Denver. A Friday could be fun!

Punki Jul 21, 1999 8:11 pm

I actually fly though Denver, connecting, both 8/4 and 8/6 but I can't remember the times and can't check.

I am currently stuck at the RCC at Ohare. Thunderstorms. Fun, Fun, Fun. They are beginning to talk about getting out TOMORROW!! Yikes. The brilliant and wonderful AnnaS called me on my cell phone and gave me the local access # to Netcom. She is sooooo smart.

dgolds Jul 21, 1999 9:14 pm

Thursday would work for me, but not Friday - I'm booked out on a 6 PM 777.

(Unless UA lets PremExes make changes on non-refundable tix - does anyone know the program rule?)

Just to let you guys know - there's a chance my business may wrap up early, in which case I might leave town early.

QuantumLeap Jul 22, 1999 9:51 am

It's sounding like Thursday 8/5 is the day.

Bryan, trying to get up to Denver around dinner time slams you into the tail end of the Tech Center Traffic Disaster on I-25, so it may take a bit longer than an hour http://talk.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

Perhaps 7:30 or 8:00 would be a good time for dinner?

dgolds:UA allows changes on non-refundable tickets for a $75.00 fee. Check with one of the UA experts such as PremEx, Rudi or Matt Wald for details.

bryan at webflyer Jul 22, 1999 9:56 am

I'm game. And I'll ask around here to see who else wants to come.

Comicwoman Jul 22, 1999 9:58 am

After a nine month project in Denver, I really should know the local restaurants better, but I do not. I would suggest "Pacific Star" downtown. Sort of fusion cuisine. Near 17th and Lawrence but I can't recall the exact location.

I liked both the food and the atmosphere.

Edit: I had the name of the restaurant wrong. Sorry about that.

dgolds

UA allows PremEx to change flights on the same day within the same fare class for free. I have saved much time and trouble thanks to this little known, apparently unpublished perk.

dimples Jul 22, 1999 4:03 pm

I have been following FlyerTalk for a while, but didn't actually put my two cents in until recently. And it would be nice to see a few faces behind the handles http://talk.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif. Is this for anyone? If yes, where are you meeting (did I miss that?)

[This message has been edited by dimples (edited 07-22-1999).]

QuantumLeap Jul 22, 1999 5:22 pm

dimples
It's open to anyone http://talk.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif We haven't picked a place yet, so you haven't missed it.

All
Since it sounds like several folk may come up from Springs in the south and dgolds will be in the Tech Center area, perhaps we should pick someplace in that area. Any particularly strong dislikes or desires on type of food?

pgupta011 Jul 22, 1999 5:31 pm

Count me in if I am in Denver at that time.

Catman Jul 22, 1999 10:33 pm

Take pictures and send them to NJDavid's FlyerTalk Gallery!!!!

This could be a first: Inside Flyers AND FLyerTalkers meeting in one place (Not counting the Freddies!)

dgolds Jul 22, 1999 11:01 pm

QuantumLeap: The Italian places in Cherry Creek posted on the other thread sounded interesting.

I'm always up for India's.

Would definitely be willing to drive downtown, no problem there.

Or do you know of a fun place with some local color?

dimples Jul 23, 1999 11:31 am

Just IF all of you would want to come down to Colorado Springs, I know a great Brew Pub with good food. It's called the Phantom Canyon...

wanderlust Jul 23, 1999 12:13 pm

Looks like I'm gonna have to miss this one. TO BAD! It's a 4 hour drive from my desk. Ya'll will be just a spit & a hollar away (as we used to say in Texas). But like Catman said: take those snap shots and do some posting and we'll all be able to make it vicariously!

dgolds:Barolo Grill is very good. On a Thursday we might even be able to get a reservation http://talk.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif Check out the review from the Rocky Mnt. News:

Like you, I'm always up for India's as well.

Randy Petersen Jul 23, 1999 5:56 pm

OK, you have my interest, I need to practice these FT Board Meetings. If I'm in the country, I'll be wherever the group decides to be. You'l recognize me, I'm the one with the "miles" grin on my face..... See you all then.

dgolds Jul 26, 1999 7:44 pm

QuantumLeap: OK, so I'm in Denver and salivating over the review of Barolo Grill you pointed me to. Sounds great to me but only if it's not too difficult for the folks coming up from Colorado Springs.

BTW in the review they mentioned that the restaurant is in a space formerly occupied by "Biba's." Do you know by any chance if it's related to Biba's in Sacramento, a truly wonderful restaurany owned by Biba Caggiano?

QuantumLeap Jul 27, 1999 8:11 am

dgolds: Barolo Grill is actually quite easy to find, it's just a little further up into Denver than the Tech Center area. I don't know about the Biba's question. It's been Barolo for as long as I've been living near it http://talk.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Since, I've heard no great outpouring of requests one way or another, I'm assuming this dinner is happening at Barolo Grill on August 5. Everyone who wants to go, please send me an email with where you'll be coming from locally. I'll send you my guess at the best driving directions. Please contact me by this weekend so I can make a reservation. The place can get very busy.

Let's set 7:30 as the time. Hopefully, that gives everyone enough time to get there, plus not be too late in getting back. Of course, let me know if this won't work for you.

dgolds Jul 31, 1999 1:49 pm

QuantumLeap: I got the directions in the e-mail yesterday. Thanks for setting the dinner up. I'm looking forward to it very much.

QuantumLeap Jul 31, 1999 9:20 pm

You're welcome http://talk.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif
I've made reservations for 6 people, hoping our two maybes can come. I look forward to meeting everyone. If anyone else find that they will be in Denver that night, send me an email and I'll adjust the reservation!

Punki Aug 1, 1999 10:16 pm

I am so sorry I'll miss you all. I'll be in Denver the 4th and the 6th, but on the 5th I'll be in El Paso. http://talk.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif (Nobody, I know, goes to El Paso in August). (Of course not, I have only clever friends!!!)

If anybody is going to be in the Denver Airport the 4th or the 6th, please let me know. http://talk.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

[This message has been edited by Punki (edited 08-01-1999).]

dgolds Aug 2, 1999 6:57 am

Punki: I will likely be there sometime on the 6th after my business ends. I am booked on UA 547 (777 service), scheduled departure at 6 PM, but may catch an earlier flight if things wrap up earlier. When's your connection?

[This message has been edited by dgolds (edited 08-02-1999).]

QuantumLeap Aug 2, 1999 8:05 am

Punki, I'm sorry you can't make it http://talk.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif Let me apologize for not stopping by DEN to say Hi. Unfortunately, I've got a class on 8/4 and getting ready for another trip on 8/6.

dimples Aug 2, 1999 2:30 pm

Thank you for trying (and succeeding) to make this work http://talk.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif I will now for sure be able to make it, and I am looking forward to dinner on Thursday.
Would it be possible to add one more to the list? I don't want to leave my poor husband at home while I go and have fun all by myself http://talk.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

[This message has been edited by dimples (edited 08-02-1999).]

pgupta011 Aug 2, 1999 3:54 pm

QuantumLeap - Thanks for setting up the dinner. I'll be there.

Punki - sorry the 4th and the 6th don't work for me either.

I will be in Denver on Friday 8/6/99 from 11:40 am until 2:40 pm. Great connections, huh?

If anyone is around, let me know. Is there computer access in Denver, if I don't take my laptop?

Otherwise I will be checking out the latest imports Denver Pizzazz. (I think pizzazz is the only work in the English language that can actually be spelled with 4 z's.)

QuantumLeap Aug 3, 1999 12:06 pm

There is Net access, I've seen the signs announcing it, but I'm embarassed to say I haven't found it yet http://talk.flyertalk.com/forum/redface.gif I hope someone pops in with the answer, so I know too http://talk.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

pgupta011 Aug 3, 1999 3:55 pm

I don't know either, I haven't enquired about it since I usually have my laptop with me. There is a web site for DIA but I could not find information there. I think that there is an information booth in the center of councourse B which may have the information.

dan at WebFlyer Aug 4, 1999 4:34 pm

I just got off the phone with Paging & Information at Denver International Airport (303) 342-2000, and I was told that there ARE computers with net access available to the public at "Laptop Lanes" in the Main Terminal. Hopefully they're not 386's with 2400 baud modems http://talk.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

QuantumLeap Aug 4, 1999 5:08 pm

Last Minute Addition

flygirl will be attending too. That makes eight, which is the current number of the reservation.

I'm looking forward to seeing you all there. -QL

PremEx Aug 4, 1999 5:22 pm

Have fun everyone! I'm sooooooo jealous!

Rudi Aug 5, 1999 9:47 am

Enjoy the dinner and your company - and please report on on all speeches.

BlondeBomber Aug 5, 1999 2:05 pm

Have a great one--see some of you at Pip!

pgupta011 Aug 5, 1999 11:21 pm

The Dinner was a real treat. Thank you Randy.

It was great to meet you all folks - QuantumLeap and dgolds, fellow flyertalkers and Bryan, winner of the latest Omni award, and FlyGirl and Dimples from WebFlyer. And Randy was there. I was sitting next to Randy and was very impressed with his plans for and commitment to FlyerTalk. Randy is the guru of FF miles, but was all ears to what we all had to say about our respective programs. A very enjoyable evening.

dgolds - thanks for the Diners Club referral.

dimples Aug 6, 1999 11:08 am

Thank you all for the fun and insightful dinner!! It was a pleasure meeting QuantumLeap, dgolds, and pgupta011. I had a wonderful time. You guys are very interesting people!! http://talk.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif
Also thanks to Randy, flygirl http://talk.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif, and Bryan, for the great conversations.

I also had a very enjoyable evening. It was a genuine pleasure to meet with Quantumleap, pguptaO11 and dgolds -their tales of travel and miles was informative and interesting. Thanks to all who attended for making the effort and taking the time to do so.
My thanks to RP, as well, for the delicious dinner. Congratulations to our one and only Bryan for his winning the Omni award, and dimples it was great to have you and Chad along.
PS. Sincere thanks to Rudi for providing the award, it was lovely.
