My wife and I are trying to decide where we will go with the 2 free TWA awards I earned this spring by flying 10 segments during their promotion. We are going to use it for a long weekend trip this fall for our anniversary. One of the places we are considering is San Antonio. I would appreciate any reports from those who attended the Texas get-together as to what they liked about the city, what sites they saw, where they stayed, etc. Thanks for any info.

Being a resident of the Alamo City, I can say there are quite a few things to see and do here, whether it's the Riverwalk, the Alamo or a side trip to the Texas Hill Country. Within driving distance, Austin is about 80 miles or so north and Laredo 160 miles south.

Most of the people going to the FT Texas get-together are staying at the Hilton Palacio del Rio, right on the Riverwalk; two Marriotts (Riverwalk and Rivercenter (the latter was built as part of the shopping mall))and a Hyatt are right smack dab in the tourist area.

The Alamo is within walking distance from the Riverwalk and downtown area.

Another area for local arts and crafts is El Mercado, on the west side of downtown and La Villita, at the south end of the Riverwalk. La Margarita restaurant there has good Tex-Mex food and killer margaritas.

And, if you want a top-of-the-world view, there's the Hemisfair tower also in downtown next to the conventrion center.

The Spanish Missions trail meanders through several missions from Spanish colonial days.

Hope this helps... and see ya at the FT Texas get-together!

Last call! If you are planning to attend the FT Texas get together in SAT any you have not yet confirmed, please e-mail me no later than Friday so we know you're coming!

For those planning on arriving Friday the 11th -- how about meeting at the bar in Tex's at the Palacio del Party (Hilton) around 8-ish PM? Let me know via e-mail or on the board.

There's a picture of me in NJDavid's Flyertalk "Most Wanted" site, but I'll probably be wearing a cap with my college fraternity's Greek letters. (Alpha Sigma Phi.)

Sorry to have missed the party in the city of the riverwalk. However, be thinking of T Wind's offer to host in 00 in Florida.

I will be arriving Late Friday night (The Delta flight is scheduled to come in around 9 p-m... then it's a matter of getting to the hotel. I intend to bring one bag, as little as possible, and take it on board.)

I hope you guys will be in a condition to see me by the time I arrive. I'll be more than happy to be the designated walker if needed.

WAHOO! Here I come to the greatest state in the Nation!

Only five days left fot the first FlyerTalk get together here in San Antonio! I've already e-mailed Catman about it but if you're coming in on Friday I can either meet you at the airport or at Tex's bar at the Hilton Palacio del Party. Let me know either way, and I'll be sure to wear something with my fraternity's Greek letters for easy recognition. (For those who are not fraternity members or have plain forgotten the Greek alphabet, look for the Alpha (same as A) Sigma (looks like an E, but it's not) and Phi (an O with a line thru it).)

I'll make up a FlyerTalk sign just in case...

See ya this weekend!

OK, Folks,

I'll probably hear the cheer in Houston, but the people who send JAWs his money, have directed that I oversee a huge fiber-optic project/installation beginning on 6/11 and, hopefully, ending on 6/13 (late). So, as much as I hate it when work displaces pleasure, I will miss the Texas/SAT FT get together. Somehow, I'll make it up to y'all.

Have a habanero for JAWs to start the party and a snifter of Remy XO or Martell Cognac with a big Cubano to end the fiesta. Remember, it's Tagamet, etc., before you begin the fiesta!!!!

I think the Knicks/Pacers are a little way from over yet, which would mean they probably wouldn't start playing until after this weekend (that series will probably go six or seven games).

You mean you can't even get us tickets in the Alamo Dome? Come on ... actually ... I wonder if the friendly concierge at AMEX Platinum could handle that ...

JAWS... I'm crying in my ShinerBock now (actually it's PEPSI... can't get ShinerBock in JERZEE.)

Anyway, have a good time working and don't worry one of us will post a full party report on F-T. Including the Cat's first cigar in 33 years! That will be a classic picture!

We'll have to plan another Texas get together (after a LONG RECOVERY from this one!)

Jaws! You SOB! Can't believe you're going to let something as insignificant as work get in the way of a FT get-together. I didn't let it! Looks like now you'll have to make it to the PIP to make up for this horrible transgression. Well...have fun with your high fiber whatever.

Remember the River Water! (It's a potent potable served up at the Republic of Texas restaurant) And be warned some of those innocent-tasting margaritas pack a hell of a wallop!!!

BTW this weekend looks like it's going to be a zoo, with the Spurs vs either the Knicks or the Pacers for the NBA finals. (As for tickets... fuhgeddaboudit unless you can snag one from a scalper!)

See you all this weekend!

As we say in Texas, I'm gonna be a missin' this party and y'all very much. I was really lookin' forward to goin' to a couple of "real" hole-in-the-wall places I know. Talk about gettin' Catman in trouble, we could really do that. Anyway, happy "shots" with salt & lime for JAWs.
