On initial recon, I would get into ANC on Friday evening, and depart late Saturday (10pm), since everything to IAH is redeye.

Really sorry - definitely can not make this year due to family commitments - grand children from Ireland.

Would love to make it in 2019.

Another option to get to Homer is to fly into Kenai and rent a car there. You cut about 2.5 hours off of the drive each way. The drive from Anchorage is spectacular, so I would definitely prefer that if travel time is not an issue. If you fly to Kenai, take Grant Aviation. FLYGRANT.COM They fly mostly a variety of 9 passenger planes and at a much lower altitude than RAVN. On a clear day the views simply cannot be beat. I do day trips to the Peninsula and fly Grant just because of the spectacular views.

Since the sun will barely go down at that time of year in Anchorage I expect the tradition to hold that the BBQ will last until well past midnight.

Bummer - we'll miss you this time and look forward to the next one. Of course, your grandkids are always welcome in Alaska The flight over from KEF makes it pretty quick!

Color me at least strongly interested. Fares look a bit ruinous at the moment, but it's been too long since I've been up there.

Fares are usually ruinous for up there but that is why Delta wanted in on Alaska's turf. If Alaska should have all that money to overpay for Virgin America out of petty cash, why not make them share the wealth?

Sounds good! Noted in the wiki. And I probably ought to update the brewery list if FortFun is going to be in the mix. There are at least 4 others en route to Homer! If you've got some flexibility, DL fares don't look half bad...

Haha...who knows what the VX thing will bring. DL was a welcome addition IMO - if only they had driven fares down for the long term, but that dosn't look to be the case. In any case, shall we reserve a spot at the table for you and frantic? I hope so!

Thank you very much. We are flattered by the invitation and as you can imagine, we are following this thread closely. We have been to the Kenai a couple of times and are most likely to come to ANC for the BBQ and maybe freelance to try to find something else of interest in Southcentral Alaska. We will know a lot more as the time gets closer.
