Ann Arbor meeting
Two speakers Saturday afternoon, a best tips contest, a nice dinner, then brunch Sunday and an Ann Arbor walking tour.
This DO started with bringing in a speaker or two to educate the attendees.
Our first confirmed speaker is Ariana, founder of the PointChaser blog. I love her for her more adventurous travels, including helping refugees.
There will be a second speaker. I'm just not sure who it will be just yet.
Sunday's activity is a walking tour of Ann Arbor, after brunch at Webers. The walk was attended by about 10 people last year, and was made up of funky Ann Arbor stores (you will never see more diverse wrapping paper than on this tour) as well as a Hogwarts dining hall knockoff. A combination of old town Ann Arbor and U of Michigan buildings. I would encourage people to consider taking the walk and getting more time to meet other travelers.
Feel free to respond as committed or tentative, and let me know if you are bringing someone to the meeting or just to dinner or brunch. Or if you are just coming to the meeting or a meal or meals.
Got a question on the fee to attend. Costs nothing to attend the speakers session, unless i need to pay to rent a bigger room, and then it would be the cost of the room divided by the attendees.

Yes, she calls me Gil NYC. You can make her +1 now and add me. Already got my room at the Sheraton - looking forward to it!

Most people stay at their chain of choice.
If you don't have a chain of choice, people seem to stay at the Sheraton.
They are working on the Hyatt Place right across from Briarwood now. Still not bookable on hyatt.com.
If anyone notices it becomes bookable, please post here.
Thanks.

They told me the closest Hyatt property to Ann Arbor is the Hyatt Place Livonia
I also note that the Hyatt Place Novi is close.
Both are low points (5K) hotels, but would require a rental car.
If any locals could let us know if these are viable options, that would be great.

For those wanting to take a shuttle bus to Artfair (and parking downtown isn't impossible that week -- its worse than than that !!!!), staying in the Briarwood area is a good idea and there's a relatively new HGI there.
My best advice is to book early to get a good rate or stay a bit farther out.

I contacted Hyatt regarding the opening of this Hyatt Place. They cannot provide any information regarding the Hyatt property in Ann Arbor.

The only issue I see is if you want to go to the art fair.

The weather in Ann Arbor has turned to spring, and summer is right around the corner. I look forward to seeing everyone again at the DO in July. I will begin on working on a spot for Saturday's dinner this coming week.
