I'd vote for Feb 20-22

us2 Nov 17, 2014 1:17 am

I'll keep following this; I have family there and there's plenty to do. The AF-1 hangar at WPAFB will blow you away, though I miss the days when you could drive on base and park at the hangar.

Count me as tentative on this depending on how the date works out. As for the date, the later the better. March is still susceptible to snow,

GRALISTAIR Nov 18, 2014 8:35 am

All proposed dates are good for me so far.

bdschobel Nov 18, 2014 7:12 pm

I could do March or early April.

Fairborn - The E. J. Nutter Ctr.

This could work for me.
I would keenly endorse the last weekend in April (24-26 April). ^

kipper Feb 15, 2015 8:13 pm

Is this a go? :D

goodeats21 Feb 16, 2015 2:17 pm

This one certainly fell off the radar, didn't it.

Still in Ohio so doable for me^

jackal Feb 18, 2015 4:30 pm

Starting soon, I shall be living closer to the Ohio border...but I also have a lot of travel coming up this spring. Will join where I can, though!

mattp1987 Feb 21, 2015 3:00 pm

I dropped the ball

Between school and buying a house I don't think I've been on FT in about a month. It's probably too late to do March. Someone on the last page suggested the last weekend in April. Would that work? If we get things set within the next week or so that would give about 2 months for those needing to travel.

That might work for us. Between when I bumped this and today, Mr. Kipper found out that he is now planning a trip to Alaska in the spring. Tentatively, he thinks it will be May or June, so this should be a go for us, but if the date of his trip is early May, we may need to pass.

jrl767 Feb 21, 2015 9:34 pm

I'll be in bi-coastal mode (approx 2 weeks DC, one week Seattle) once we wrap up the DC-->SEA relocation (early to mid April, depending on whether we opt to fly or drive) ... other than the weekend of 8-11 May when we will be in New Orleans, I should be able to choreograph my TCONs to join the Dayton DO

I have also promised a bunch of my former AF colleagues that I will make an appearance at Wright-Patt in the next few months

Soooooooo. No longer "near NYC?"

I will keep an eye on this thread since I work in the Midwest quite a bit and DAY is very easy for me a good part of the time.

Count me in ^

jrl767 Mar 4, 2015 6:37 am

I'm about out of windows:

3-5 Apr -- Easter
10-12 Apr -- SEA
17-19 Apr -- challenging but probably doable
24-26 Apr -- good
1-3 May -- SEA
8-10 May -- MSY
15-17 May -- good
22-24 May -- Memorial Day

HPN-HRL Mar 4, 2015 7:52 am

For me, the only pre-June weekends that work are 17-19 Apr and maybe 15-17 May. Maybe we should plan for a DAY Do in September???

Fall could possibly work, as long as we avoid hunting season. :D

having spent at least two weeks of my summer vacations in Dayton during 18 years of USAF Reserve duty, I heartily agree that this is not an ideal time to visit the Miami Valley

although cold beer at the Dublin Pub in the Oregon District or The Pub at The Greene on a hot muggy summer afternoon is never a bad thing

Well I agree September/October - but let us not let it go off the radar this time and start putting some serious dates down. Please avoid Oct 11th it is my 35th Wedding anniversary though I could of course bring the wife along :)

your anniversary notwithstanding, that's a holiday weekend anyway (at least for most of the remainder of the US population)

my current schedule includes a cyber-security colloquium in SEA the weekend of 18-20 Sep, and a family function in BNA the first weekend of Oct

I'm likely to be in Alaska for most of September.

As for October, I'll be gone at the end of the month but the first two thirds or so of the month are fine.

But my travel schedule is so fuzzy at this time that no one should plan this thing around me...

Thought your handle looked familiar. See you in Alaska.

84fiero Mar 8, 2015 5:39 pm

Sept 19th is the USAF Marathon so we'd want to avoid that weekend as the Museum and surrounding area are crowded with that activity.

jrl767 Mar 9, 2015 7:06 am

yes, good catch there ... hotel accommodations would likely be rather harder to come by as well

84fiero Mar 10, 2015 1:34 pm

Just saw this on the local news. The Presidential and R&D gallery (currently housed inside the base in an old hangar) will be closed starting Oct 01, 2015 until sometime in early 2016. This is to allow for the move of those aircraft to the newly-constructed addition to the main museum which will house those aircraft - and eliminate the need for the special visitors passes/busing to see them.

Depending on how much our potential attendees want to see those particular aircraft, may want to plan around that. However there is still lots to see in the museum even aside from those planes. Thought I'd pass along though just in case.

A bump - are we any closer to a DO?

jrl767 May 13, 2015 10:57 am

just a thought ... could we perhaps plan something for Fri 28 Aug and the morning of Sat 29 Aug, and then mosey up to Toledo (approx 2-2.5 hr drive, or so the experts say) for baseball?
