Definitely counts--awesome itinerary!

Well, apart from the one's listed above, I have had quite a few Europe trips, which I don't think qualifies for RTW, but, I am going to post one interesting trip to Europe, here, anyway:

PHX-ORD-CDG/ZRH-ATL-ORD-PHX-ATL-MCO (US F, DL J, DL J, DL F, US F, DL F, DL F).

The reason I said it was interesting was, although my return was on ST and US (a then *A carrier), they were able to interline my bags till PHX (the max. limit of the no. of flights that can be put on a bag tag!! :p ), and I had to recheck it only at PHX. The check-in agent commented that it was the most complex itinerary she had ever seen (and I was thinking, you do not know FlyerTalkers! This is relatively simple compared to what some of you FT'ers had flown.

Long story short, when I got my bag at PHX, HAD 5 priority and 1 SWISS first class tag (dunno how that happened :p ). It sure was fun to see the check-in lady at PHX remove all the tags one-by-one! Lol... :p :D

In late 2008, IIRC, I flew the following itinerary:

EWR-BFS/DUB-PRG-TBS-IST/SAW-SHJ/DXB-(BAH)-BKK (a day before protesters took over BKK, so I took a taxi down to Hat Yai), Penang/Ipoh, KUL-HKG-HGH, Shanghai, NGB-SZX-BKK-(SYD)-AKL-NAN-LAX-JFK

Only done one round-the-world, but did most of it overland. Not any year-long gap-year back-packing for me, though. 16 days from Paris to Hong Kong via train.

Plane: YYZ-CDG
Train: Paris-Brussels-Moscow-Irkutsk-Ulan Bator-Jining-Beijing-Hong Kong
Plane: HKG-YVR-YYZ

A lot of time to spend on a train, and was quite sick of it by the end.

Brussels-Moscow and some time in Moscow.
4 days aboard the train from Moscow to Irkutsk (four days deserves two blog entries), and then a day in Irkutsk.
Irkutsk to Ulan Bator, and some fun times with the police in Ulan Bator.
Getting scammed in Beijing...
...before heading on to Hong Kong.
And finally, flying across the dateline back to Canada.

May 2014: IAD-IST-PVG on TK; bullet train from Shanghai to Beijing (slightly backtracking); PEK-NRT-ORD-DCA on NH. Flights all booked in J with UA miles, priced as U.S. to Asia before the deval.

TK even provided me a free hotel room during my layover at IST.

I have only done one and that was DH and my 25th-anniversary-RTW-Extravaganza-trip, on which I first met the venerable SanDiego1K while viewing lions at Salt Lick Lodge (part of the famous and now defunct Hilton Safari award). Was able to do all this thanks to the famous and now defunct Kelloggs/AA cereal coupons.

We went LAX-MIA-LHR-JNB-HKG-LAX

Perhaps next lifetime I will do more.

Generic RTW question (oddly, no RTW subforum??) but what's the best way to get a RTW fare if all I want to do is just, well, go RTW? RTW ticket on one of the alliances or find some routing that goes around for cheap?

The easiest way I can do it is SIN-NRT-LAX and JFK-FRA-SIN in SQ and LAX-JFK on any number of carriers, but thats kinda boring.

You might want to look over on the Miles & Points Forum and scroll down to the Global Airline Alliances forums. There are stickies that explain all about the RTW tickets, routing, etc.

Doing bucket shop RTWs in the early 1980s was far more interesting than the simple alliance tickets that are available now.

And the large SE Asia cities then were far more challenging.

But take the opportunities when and where you can...

IAH-PEK-ICN-SYD // MEL-BKK-TPE-HKG-PEK IAH.
Used CA on 4 segs. OZ for 1, Thai for 1& Eva for 2
Emptied All UA MILES. ( Booked before deval). No more 1k after this year.
