Lightbulb The 3rd Franconian DO - "NUE Christmas Market - Let it Snow-DO" - December 06-08 2013
After hosting two successful Franconian DOs in June 2009 and June 2012, I was approached by a few FlyerTalkers whether I would be able to host a Franconian DO during the Christmas Market weeks. Well, this is my answer ... "Yes, December 06-08 2013"

With about two million visitors a year the Nürnberger Christkindlesmarkt is one of the largest Christmas markets in Germany and one of the most famous in the world. The Christmas Market with about 180 wooden booths deliberately restricts itself to traditional Christmas goods: spicy gingerbread, Zwetschgenmännle (little prune people), roast sausages, mulled wine, toys, Christmas decorations and arts and crafts.

But there is much more to explore in this city. Just join the party and find out for yourself ...

BTW, yes, there might be franconian beer and franconian wine involved

p.s. i cannot give any snow guarantee. last christmas we had about 20°C and no snow at all ...

19:00 leave for "Romantic Christmas Market" at Wolfgang Manor, Anwanden (11€ per person)
19:45 arrival at the Christmas market

Saturday Dec 07
10:00 morning guided walking tour ("Emperors, Councilmen, Craftsmen" - Life in medieval Nuremberg) (pay as you go - approx. 10€)
14:30 afternoon guided walking tour (""Murderers, Counterfeiters, Stabbers" - History of Crime in Nuremberg") (pay as you go - approx. 10€)
19:00 guided christmas market walking tour (pay as you go - approx. 10€)
20:30 saturday christmas dinner - "Goldenes Posthorn" (set menu, 36€ prepayment necessary, drinks are not included)

Sunday Dec 08
10:00 breakfast at the airport (terminal 90) (pay as you go)

There are various other hotels which are centrally located but not belonging to international hotel chains - e.g. the Maritim Nuremberg or the NH Nuremberg City.

Another cheap hotel chain (I really like) is Motel One. They have two properties in Nuremberg - and they are budget design hotels.

How to get to NUE
By Air

*A Flights to NUE
LH from DUS, FRA, MUC, TXL
LX from ZRH
TK from IST

other *A carriers offer flights to NUE via FRA, DUS, MUC, ZRH.

SkyTeam Flights to NUE
AF from CDG, LCY
KL from AMS

other ST carriers offer flights to NUE via AMS and CDG.

unfortunatly no oneworld airline is currently flying to NUE from an oneworld hub
Regular Scheduled Air Berlin Flights to NUE
from DUS, HAM, TXL, VIE

Regular scheduled GermanWings Flights to NUE
from HAM

regular scheduled RyanAir Flights to NUE
from STN, PSA, ALC, AGP, OPO, CAG

getting from the airport to the city center is very convenient. you can just take the subway which will cost 2,60€ for a single ride and take you to the main station in about 12 minutes.

Since my arm is being twisted by a couple of short people, I must declare that we are probably coming to NUE despite having previously sworn off coming to Central Europe in the winter.
