BOS DO Sep. 23, 2011

BOS DO Friday, September 23rd, starting at 5:00 @
The Kinsale
2 Center Plaza
Boston

This is right across Cambridge Street from Boston City Hall, and the T stop called "Government Center", which serves the Green and Blue (from the airport) subway lines. It's a couple blocks from the State Street (Orange Line) and Park Street (Red Line) T stops.

It's supposed to be in the mid-70s on Friday, so I've reserved a section of the outdoor patio, around the side from the front of the restaurant. I think it'll be a good location, and flexible in terms of however many people end up coming, and allow some space for mingling or sitting.

I am in

can do the 19th or 23rd

I suggest MR DOOLEYS PUB !!

http://www.mrdooleys.com/

I believe it's still an idine place and they do serve the best Guinness in the country.

DeltaWings Sep 2, 2011 2:19 pm

Wish I could! Can't make it work, unfortunately. Next time!

JY1024 Sep 2, 2011 5:12 pm

Put me down as a tentative? I'll be in the city on Friday Sept 23 for meetings, so it'll be a little easier for me to drop by for a drink after work. (However, I probably won't be able to stay long as I also have another shindig that evening.)

Mon Sept 19 could potentially work, too...just depends on how early the festivities begin.

longwaybackhome Sep 2, 2011 6:30 pm

I'm in. Either day works.

rts123 Sep 2, 2011 9:20 pm

I'm interested if I'm around. Heading out of BOS tomorrow on a trip of unknown duration but should be back by then.

wharvey Sep 3, 2011 10:49 am

Could possibly do the 23rd.

pawtim Sep 6, 2011 8:00 pm

Either date is fine; we can see what works for the majority. There are plenty of bars in downtown Boston -- Mr. Dooleys would be fine, but if the weather is nice, someplace with outdoor seating might be better.

Used to be there was a bar that was on restaurant.com, no food purchase required, and it was an idine place. It was a cool place to meet for drinks, because you could use a $75 coupon off $150 tab from rest.com, then apply the idine discount! Alas, that place no longer participates...they were probably losing money on patrons like me! Used to take my interns there.

GoldCircle Sep 7, 2011 5:42 am

There may be a good number of FT Mods in BOS on the 23rd. Just sayin' ;)

I could perhaps make the 23rd.

As possibly could I, although some logistical transportation plans may get in the way. Mark me down as interested...

Okay, I feel like I'm missing something obvious, but I haven't had much time on FT lately -- how come mods will be in town? It'd be fun if there was a big group (actually, we'll have fun no matter what the group size!)

so we can bribe them with Guinness my friend!!

I still vote for Mr Dooleys pub on the 23rd. Could grab a bunch of tables, have pints and eats and fight over who gets to pay the idine tab lol

We could tell you, but then we'd have to kill you.

It looks like we're honing in on the 23rd as the date, and Mr. Dooley's would be fine, if a bit pricier than most pubs in the area. But there'll be no need to fight over who gets to charge it; there's a protocol that the organizer gets to use his (or her) card! :)

lol I know what it is!! ooh ooh!

Cartera and FreeCause are both the mileage vendor third party affiliate companies that run everything toolbar and mall for most major airlines and other large companies and both of these recently debacled companies are located in and around Boston. They have promised Red Sox tickets to FT MODs in hopes that the MODs can quell uprisings from the 1-3k gamer-styled customer base that has been vetting offers on recent promos gone bad that had been put forth on airlines such as united and AA by the two shopping-relationship companies. Since the Red Sox are in a daily race with the Yankees to see who is in first in the AL, it makes for sweet sports and sweet mileage gigs all in one.

that, or you guys like September rain.
:D

Yah but when you try their Guinness you will agree it's the best you have had this side of Ireland, and so you owe me one for being right about that hehe

Dooleys is the place, by the way, that once let me run a 10 cent idine charge. I actually split a tab between 3 cards for a promo years ago and one of the charges was that small.

:D

I wish they'd invite me to the game, too!

But that's OT -- this thread is about the BOS DO.

mikeef Sep 7, 2011 9:04 pm

I'm down with the Do. See you on the 23rd!

definitely do!!

parking near Mr Dooleys can be a bear... if you dont get street, there is a lot near State street too but it costs a bit. Then again you are right next to Fan. hall so it could be worth the trip for that as well.

krpjr Sep 8, 2011 6:58 am

I'm in for the 23rd if that works for others ;)! Works perfect since I'll already be in Town and can Metro to wherever we decide on for drinks.

oliver2002 Sep 8, 2011 7:13 am

Google maps says its a 11 min walk from our hotel (or 11 min via public transport), so as I european I'll probably keep the rental car where it belongs :)

hope to see you there!

Just note that in Boston they call it a "T" not a Metro lol
but if it gets u there that's all that matters

The nearest T to get you there, however, might be taking the Red Line to Down Town Crossing or anything that gets to Government Center.

This will put you in and around the Financial District. Since Boston is a great walking city, it doesnt take much to get around on foot... The bar is located at the corner of Batterymarch and Broad.

If this thing takes on a bigger life than anticipated, I think pawtim needs to ask them to block off a bunch of tables for us! hehe

yes, do walk it. care to tell which hotel that is? I know the city quite well as I have lived in and around Boston most of my life and used to work in at least 3 companies right around where this bar is.

Its two orange T stops south of our pub Do location. ;)
No more details, refer to post #13. :)

JY1024 Sep 8, 2011 11:50 am

Coolio - glad this seems to be coming together! :)

Any thoughts on what time we want to meet up?

Thanks for the chuckle. I meant to refer to it as the "T" but traveling worldwide and living in DC people always say metro so as soon as I thought trains, I thought "metro" haha.

I'm a born raised Bostonian :P. I grew up in Roxbury, not too far from Northeastern. Still have my bearings!!! Haha

But I'll be looking to share a beer and get a few laughs in :D!

Marathon Man Sep 8, 2011 12:26 pm

Well post #13 says, "We could tell you, but then we'd have to kill you." and I thought the poster had meant, We could tell you, but then we'd have Tequilla!" lol

And Dooley's is best known for it's Irish spirits and Guinness, not Tequillas--metro or no. :D

Time you ask? Well, I aint the thread organizer or nuthin, but I would imagine it would be a good idea to be in there around 6-7pm???

Pawtim?
what say you?

Again, it could be dependent on number of known committed people AND timing, but they can arrange some tables to get us all together if the group is say 5-15 people. (If it gets too much bigger we have to do a booze cruise hahahaha).

missydarlin Sep 8, 2011 7:09 pm

I could make the 23rd... but later. More likely in the 8-9pm range.

Well, I was thinking something along the lines of Happy Hour until whenever...if some folks can't get there 'til later, then you could twist my arm to stay and have a few more drinks, and meet more FTers! :)

Interesting fact: Happy Hour is outlawed in Massachusetts! (At least drink specials). It's part of our Puritan heritage...

We should probably figure out when to start, so I can drop by the pub and let them know we'll be a group.

Canarsie Sep 9, 2011 6:52 pm

If I am able to catch an earlier flight, I might be able to attend on September 23.

tkey75 Sep 11, 2011 4:55 pm

put me down as interested as well. not sure what my schedule is yet that day, but if i can be there i will be.

rggale Sep 12, 2011 4:04 pm

as of now I am coincidentally going to be in BOS on the 23rd (arriving at like 9pm but will try to come in earlier). put me down as a maybe!

aztimm Sep 14, 2011 12:54 pm

I'll also be in BOS that weekend, arriving at 5pm Friday Sep 23, and would be interested in meeting others for dinner and maybe a drink. I was thinking of heading to the Bull & Finch (or whatever it is called these days), but am open to whatever.

And perhaps Marathon Man could show me some running areas in/around Boston I could explore on Sunday morning (or he could even join me)?

Maybe the OP could update the first post with the latest info, who's going, etc?

It's actually called "Cheers" now, but there isn't too much reason to go there. True, the outside stairs do look like the bar on the show, but the inside is nothing like it. Apparently, they make a pretty good burger, though. If you want, I'll walk you over there and show off the stairs. ;)

FYI, I used to work as a Park Ranger in Boston and can probably answer a few historical questions or give you a couple anecdotes, at least. Remind me and I'll give you the true story of why the Tea Party happened, why the Battle of Bunker Hill never took place and why two guys named Dawes and Prescott got screwed by a poet and history.

I would suggest just running along the Charles and it's nice for many miles no matter where you start. An example is to go from say, where Boston University is to the Hatshell and back. Along the Esplanade.

http://www.bostoncentral.com/events/...ents/p1021.php

I will not be in town on Sunday or I would probably run with ya, but I am only around for Fri, which is why I pushed the OP to have it on that date lol

I am also here to say that Cheers is not a good place. Sure it has good burgers but I do not think we should do this there. Real Boston is not Cheers. The front of the building near Beacon Street that is in the TV show was the only good part of it. The rest is a tourist trap and you may as well just visit Disney World.

But hey if this gets REAL big I do know some people and maybe we can rent out Fenway Pahk! lol
next time

Arthur Randolph Sep 14, 2011 4:45 pm

Argh. I'm heading out at Logan at 3:30pm on the 23rd for a weekend/MR on the JK/US MAD mistake fare >< Have fun guys!

frank_10b Sep 14, 2011 8:20 pm

might be there, but busy flying out of BDL a couple of days later.
