IBC 2011 Amsterdam: Sept 7th-13th

Time flies and soon I'll be winging off to AMS for the annual IBC trade show (www.ibc.org), where 45,000 of my closest friends will be joining me.

Anyone else going to the show or just in AMS around that timeframe? If so, let's try & meet up for drinks and/or meal. I do know of one other FTer who will be there, but thought I'd check to see if there are others.

I arrive Wed, Sept 7th, & depart Wed, Sept 14th. Have a couple of commitments, but am open for the most part.

Cheers.

Just found out a non-FTer who has met a # of FTers is now going to the show, so thought I'd bump this up.

Cheers.

Ah so this is why hotels are so awfully expensive that week in Amsterdam .

I won't be at the show but will be staying at the Park Plaza Amsterdam Airport on the 12th and be flying AMS-ORD on UA 909 on the 13th.

Yup. I usually note the increased hotel prices in my original post & tell people to stay away that week if they can do so.

The show gets 45,000 people & is considered a 'citywide event', which is code for all the hotels to jack up their rates. I'm on the convention negotiated rate of 279E, but if you went to book through my hotel's website, the non-negotiated rate is 500Euros. Just checked a few others & they're similar. Heck, even the airport properties are showing in the high 300s. It's ridiculous.

Cheers.

Yep, add me to the list. I'll be 9-SEP thru 12-SEP.

I may need to steady my nerves after flying BRS-AMS on a KL F50. F50 FFS!

Do we want to try & sort out meeting up?

If I read the posts correctly (and not knowing if people have plans for the dates they listed they're in town),

mardg probably has 10th, 11th open
SkiAdcock has 9th, the 10th & 11th later in eve post-dinner, 12th open
Bristol Traveller has 9th, 10th, 11th open
Dondon has 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th open
MachOne has 12th, 13th open
lzellan has 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th open

We could meet at central location like Leidesplein area. Alternatively, if people can cut away from their booths for 30minutes or hour, we could meet at the pub onsite at the convention center during show hours or for lunch at one of the conv ctre restaurants.

Thoughts? Cheers.

I don't know what an IBC is other than root beer. However I will be in town starting the 14th if anyone is around and wants to grab a drink.

stimpy, IBC is the European version of NAB (Nat'l Assn Broadcasters) trade show, although a dif org. Normally I'd be in on the 14th & able to meet for a drink (because I stay an extra day at my expense to unwind from the show), but I was trying to coordinate flights back w/ a colleague & the upgrade was available on the 14th. The irony is the colleague ended up w/ dif routing so I could have stayed, but I'm not willing to pay the $250 change fee (assuming same fare is avail & I could still upgrade). If that changes I'll PM you.
