Of course everyone likes exotic destinations, but I would guess the price would be very, very high if this thing went to Asia.

DFW meet up

Saw the One World mention and thought I would post this here. I recall seeing very briefly a discussion about a possible AA meeting in DFW (this fall?). I am interested of course as I live in DFW area. Have tried to do both post and title searches in the community area and AA area. Did I dream this up? Thanks in advance.

Folks,

Thank you all for your ideas.

We will hold a LAUNCH PARTY with Randy and Maya present in LA on October 11th and present an EXCITING OWmegacdo program live on that day. Invitation will be posted in a separate thread.

Wowzer, this sounds like it could be a LOT of fun. Wanted to toss Miami into the ring, as it's a gateway for AA to Latin America and the weather is ideal for January ;-)

Hi Tommy777,

1) Any particular reason why January in the winter? Some of us may not accure time off yet.
2) Any chance our friend Maya at AA will toss in double eqms as special for this grand event?

Folks,

Due to popular demand, we have been able to move the launch party to a weekend day.

It will be held close to LAX on October 9th at 6PM

1) Because we want cheap business tickets, January is a low demand month.

2) TBD

It's clear that no city or date is going to satisfy everyone, and I'm glad that hasn't stopped the planners. I'm anxious to learn what will be announced on Oct. 11.

Sounds like a fantastic MegaDo coming up! I have full confidence in the organizers as both StarMegaDos were great fun ^

Will certainly try to join this time too.

How does one of these events work?

I mean how does one pay? How much does it cost? How does it work in general?

And the dumbest but maybe most important question of all.. do attendees get EQM/EQP's on these flights?

I have not attended any of the Star alliance do's nor read the threads. However they appear to be like trying to understand and go through ten trick it threads in length and complicity so could someone please give the cliff notes version as to how these mega do's work?

thanks

It's not that complicated to understand & if you took the time to read the first posts of Do threads you'd have your answer.

I always love it when someone says I haven't read squat & am not willing to take the time to do so, so you all do the work for me.

But in this case I will for you (kind of).

If you click on the first link in the SMD threads (SMD1 & 2 on this BB; # 3 on MP), it provides all the details. Those will answer a lot of your questions re: how it all works re: scheduling, timing, pricing, activities - or has for SMD1&2 & 3. Yes, it does require you doing a search on this forum for 1/2 or heading over to MP for 3.

I provided specific links in a thread in Omnis of videos & articles re: SMD, but sounds like you didn't link on those. If you had, you'd see how cool the trips are. You might want to go to the FT Awards thread in Omni & find my post with the links.

I had fab times on SMD1/2 & am missing 3 due to bizness. I will say that #1 was the most magical, and I'm hoping tommy et al will do similar for OneWorld (which odds are I won't be at, but would love you all to experience like we did).

FWIW - the 'launch party' got switched to Oct 9th in LA cuz people were kvetching on the 11th being on a weekday.

Re: Jan. tommy posted likely the week of Jan 23, '12. Probably Wed-Fri, with Mon on activities if someone wants to do both int'l & domestic trip - ie, the full schebang.

Disclaimer: I'm not on SMD3 & not on OWDo & have no financial or vested interest in MP, SMD, OWD, etc. I just had fab experiences on the first 2 SMDs.

Cheers.

I echo SkiAdcock's statement to read the first few posts in the SMD1 & SMD2 threads, but here are some quick hits:

Cost - Usually dependent upon class of service on the charter flights. The costs range from about $700 for regular coach to about $1,500 for F or J class. This year, Tommy Class (coach, with the middle seat empty) was added as a "cabin" when booking opened, for $1,200, with the option of a $100 upsell for an exit row seat.

Tommy has been able to score us decent rates at the event hotels, ranging from about $99 for the IAH Sheraton, to about $150 for some of the downtown properties. Hyatt is our hotel sponsor for the SMD3.

There is also usually an international optional add-on. Last year it was in FRA. This year it's in MUC. (I'm not doing the MUC portion this year.)

Re miles: CO and UA have been giving EQM's (actual miles + bonus miles for the higher classes). In past years, some of the other *A carriers gave EQM's, but don't count on your carrier of choice giving EQM's unless Tommy confirms it.

There are also parties galore, but the parties are usually ONLY open to FT'ers who are booked on the charter flight. This year, there will be a dinner in Denver on Saturday night, 9/10, which benefits the Capt. Jason Dahl Fund (one of the 9/11 pilots), and is open to all FT'ers.

I would write more if I had more time...

Thanks SS255 for the helpful post. I'm glad I asked about the EQM's as that would be one of my two deal maker or breakers along with cost.

From the numbers you posted here, there does not seem to be much of a price difference for Y vs. J as I'm primarily referring to the ~1:2 rate. It's almost a no brainer to go J.

I presume if you can get a better deal at the hotels (whether paid or points), you can take it or are you limited to buying thru the sponsor?

thanks again
