Indeed, but I believe it is an Austin icon simply for the view. I have had numerous reports in the past week that the food is subpar and the drinks are just ok. Moreover, we will have a large group of folks and the Oasis doesn't take reservations, and the wait on a Saturday evening in the spring can easily top an hour for a party of four.

Billy's has a group setup available that may work much better. Plus, I'm personally a fan of locally brewed beer and of BBQ in general. But as Starwood Lurker noted, if anyone wants to try out The Oasis, they would have plenty of opportunity.

Good points. The food has never been the draw there and if reservations are not accepted, that would be impossible for a group event.

Have been to both uncle billy's and oasis. Billy's wins on both drink selection and food. Oasis food isn't bad but as most say you only go there for the view. Oasis has more outdoor space but the views are the same. Also the Iguana Grill is a nice spot on Lake Travis w/live music in the evenings.

Not sure of how the logistics would work this out but an Austin Food Cart Tour would be great! http://austinfoodcarts.com/

Thanks for the suggestion, but perhaps for another Austin Mega Do.

This would be a good side trip for some of the participants. If anything, a visit to Hey Cupcake! and Torchy's are a must... and the crepe one on SoCo!

Because not everyone believes a thread should be closed... And there are a few of us still trying to shake the extra pounds gained at last year's do!

Managed to make it out to Uncle Billy's on the Lake with Mackieman, Mrs. Mackie, colpuck, and the rest of the birthday revellers and I think this place will do us nicely for a Saturday late afternoon - evening wrap-up.

Also, confirming that you actually have to walk by The Oasis to get to Uncle Billy's, so anyone who would rather fight the crowds to get in there can certainly do so.

Hopefully, by next year, we'll get some rain to fill the Highland Lakes. Otherwise, we may be navigating to get around the "sometimes" islands. ;)

Agreed. Their locally brewed beer was great as well. :)

Well, three out of the eight I tasted were great. The other five...not so much. That coffee stout was just plain nasty. LOL. :D But, I did like all of the ales...amber, pale, extra hopped, etc.
