Black's BBQ in Lockhart

I was thinking about you guys when I saw this great Eversave deal for Black's BBQ in Lockhart. In the process of sharing my find, I found this thread. If you can't wait another year to enjoy some Texas BBQ, here's the deal. $10 for $20 of BBQ through midnight tonight. If you have an Eversave account, they just sent out a $10 save reward which makes it FREE! You can't beat that! If you don't have an account, when you sign up you get a $4 credit, so $6 for $20 of BBQ, still not a bad deal!

One per day? Sounds great. Last year was too much good stuff stuffed into so little time I hardly remember it.

I imagine the weather will be warmer in April than it is in February. Not complaining at all 'cause I don't mind bundling up.

This is penciled into my calendar.

No need to bundle up in April. While it has been unseasonably warm this month, we have already had a high in the upper 90's this week!

Indeed. We are thinking of spending the afternoon on the lake on the Saturday during this event. ^

Great idea! If it's this warm next year, a dip at Barton Springs may need to be on the agenda.

Barton Springs would beat the lake HANDS DOWN any day of the week. Close, convenient, cool, clean, lots of space...

My guess is that you are speaking in terms of a swimming experience only? If so, then I would tend to agree, but other than this, I find the Zilker Park experience to be a bit flat as compared to Lake Travis.

This year, however, we are working on getting a party barge for a Saturday afternoon at Lake Travis. We are hoping to move along the lake to some areas that folks can fish or swim, as they see fit. Maybe not all at the same time, mind you. ;)

We will probably follow that up with watching the sunset, eating some BBQ, and drinking some microbrews at Uncle Billy's Brew & Que on the Lake. If we do, that will be our second BBQ venue in one day. :D

LOL. Well, my first suggestion was to go next door to The Oasis Bar & Grill just to have drinks and watch the sunset from their magnificent decks overlooking Lake Travis.

But, at our BBQ Thursday luncheon yesterday, it was pointed out that Uncle Billy's has the same fine view and BBQ to boot. So, since some voters were asking to do two-a-days on BBQ, it seemed like a fine suggestion to move the venue a few hundred feet or so.

Of course this cannot be committed to until it gets an official BBQ Thursday seal of approval. :)

And I'll second the Oasis comment: The views are great, but the food really is only so-so.

Absolutely. We still have a road trip to be sure that Uncle Billy's has acceptable BBQ. ;) But, it might have to fall on another day other than Thursday. :( I hate it when work gets in the way of fun. :D

With all due respect, I would think that the Oasis would be higher up on the list of Austin icons to visit than Uncle Billy's, especially if they have already had BBQ that day. I've never been to Uncle Billy's, so I really can't compare the 2, but IMHO viewing the sunset over Lake Travis from the Oasis is more of an Austin tradition.

Yes, but I'm told the views are exactly the same. But, we will do some fact finding and make a final decision.

Besides, the "Austin tradition" is only a few hundred feet away. If folks want to experience that as well, they would be more than welcomed to make it their choice. ;)

Indeed, but I believe it is an Austin icon simply for the view. I have had numerous reports in the past week that the food is subpar and the drinks are just ok. Moreover, we will have a large group of folks and the Oasis doesn't take reservations, and the wait on a Saturday evening in the spring can easily top an hour for a party of four.

Billy's has a group setup available that may work much better. Plus, I'm personally a fan of locally brewed beer and of BBQ in general. But as Starwood Lurker noted, if anyone wants to try out The Oasis, they would have plenty of opportunity.
