So, Flyer_70, I guess we both turned down VDB's today on AA. If I had planned better, I would have gotten a MR out of it.

I still remember stumbling across FT when I was researching my first ever RTW trip, back in 2002. At the time I was just qualifying as a lawyer in London, had only flown long haul once in my life, and had a BA Executive Club blue card that I hardly used.
Within a few months, I had *A Gold status, had picked up lots of recommendations for hotels and destinations, and was feeling a little more at home, so actually started posting!
By 2005, I was travelling more for work and managing to turn the BA card silver, as well as keeping *A Gold and discovering mileage upgrades, meaning very little travel in Y. I even managed to grab a mileage run ticket/mistake fare (in the form of the then-infamous SK J tickets to Asia from OSL that were available for 1% of the usual base fare). I used the mistake fare to take a vacation in China, a country I never visited for work.
Fast forward another five years and I am living in China, have status on all 3 alliances and am flying every week for work and pleasure. Through using the tricks and tips I have picked up on FT over the years, my travelling life is a lot more comfortable than it would otherwise be, and I continue to turn to FT and its enormous collective wisdom for help when using a new airline or heading off someplace new. I also find myself contributing more and more to helping with the questions others raise, and have of course met some members in person. So I guess all this makes me a winner already.
Of course, none of this is anything like as interesting as the story of FT itself (or indeed the chance to take on Randy at basketball). Good luck to everyone!
