    Thanks, Mort.

We will try to have the drivers to bring a sheet with FLYERTALK sign on it. Unfortunately, both drivers of the two vans doesn't speak English. I will be in the van for Hilton Shanghai pickup. In case you have difficulties locating our groups at both hotels, please give me a call at my mobile: +86 136 41867888.

Sorry, the phone number in the topic line is wrong(Thanks, Peter). It should be 13641867888!

    Best,
    James

Does anyone have any experience with trying to connect to the China Mobile hotspot/WLAN service? I seem to be getting good signal (CMCC) in my room, and it only costs 70 RMB for a week (vs. 60 RMB per day for the hotel).

I can read some Chinese, and it seems like I need some kind of mobile number. However, I can't tell how to enrolled or how it's actually charged. Would it suffice if I borrow someone's mobile phone number, or would the bill be actually charged to their account?

I also see a ChinaUnicom network, which seems to be free to subscriber.

I am still not feeling well, so I am doubtful that I can join you guys. If I don't show up by 8:30 AM, please feel free to leave.

Yes, you could just reimburse them later. Or, you could pick up a SIM yourself.

Any recommendations of place to pick up a SIM?

I think I saw a China Mobile office nearby. I will pay them a visit after getting lunch.

If you go that route, bring your passport and some reading material.

In the past, I've always bought SIMs on the street... cheaper, no ID requirement, no waiting, but I haven't noticed many street vendors blatantly (i.e. with long lists of phone numbers and corresponding prices) selling SIMs recently.

For the Friday morning 10 AM pickup, is it going to be at the Le Royal Meridien or the Westin?

For the Westin, I assume that it is the Westin Bund Center, several blocks south of Nanjing East station?

Greetings from the CY 30F lounge, where in appropriate FlyerTalk fashion I've just finished my welcome gin.

I'm assuming it doesn't matter which hotel we show up at tomorrow? If so, we'll be heading to Le Royal Meridien as the most convenient option.

Unexpectedly, my SPTC had enough residual value to get me in from the airport.

    ckpeter Nov 10, 2011 5:21 pm

Can someone confirm for me that LeMeridien and Westin are two different hotels?

I see people keep referring to both as if they are the same (e.g. "Le Royal Meridien/Westin at 1000"), but from what I can tell, they are different hotels.

I stay near the Westin Bund Center, and I need to know if I have to walk to LeMeridien to be picked up by the van.

Yes, they are definitely two different hotels. I suspect the van will call at both but some of us are expecting to be picked up from the ground level of Le Royal Meridien at 10:00.

Thanks. I am waiting at the Westin now. I don't see any obvious group member, so I am by myself.

IMPORTANT: for anyone looking to contact James / TravellerOnline, please note that his number is +86 136 41867888 (in the post body). His subject line number is wrong (I got an angry Chinese callee on that one).

Due to traffic being rather terrifying during "rush hour", and the fact we just spent 15 hrs in Economy, FriendlySkies and I are going to just hang at the Grand Hyatt tonight so will not be at dinner. But we will see you all at the Westin(?) for 1300(?) pickup tomorrow for China Eastern.

(If our non-presence tonight impacts anyone financially please let us know. I don't think it was a prepaid thing but could be wrong!)

Changes in the China Eastern Flight Training Tour

Unfortunately we have run into a problem with our tour to the China Eastern Flight Training Facility. It appears that due to special events going on at the facility they can only accommodate 16 people. That is the total number that should have the opportunity to utilize the flight simulator, No Observers.

There will be a van to pickup people at the Hilton and bring them to the Meridien. China Eastern will have a bus to pick us up from the Le Meridien and take us to the facility. The van will pickup at the Hilton at 1300 and bring you to the Le Meridien. So the meeting point will be at either the Hilton or The Le Meridien.

If more than 16 people show up we will have to draw straws (a lottery) to see who goes.

Sorry but sometimes the best laid plans of mice and men go astray.

    Mort

    ckpeter Nov 11, 2011 8:39 am

Just to follow up on Mort's post: contrary to what is currently in post 1, there will be no pickup at the Westin. I stay 3 blocks from the Westin and plan to take a taxi to Le Meridien.

I am still recovering at the moment, but I will probably go tomorrow. Please post your intention if you are going from the Westin and plan to take a cab. I will check around noon time to see if anyone is offering to share a cab, or if I should go by myself.

Since I am living in Shanghai, I am going to pass this time and let our out-of-town FTers to maximize their chance attending the China Eastern flight simulator. For those lucky ones who manage to get on to the simulator, you can tell us your experience.

    Just to confirm..

Is the Le Meridien the one at 789 Nanjing Dong Lu, or is it the one at 1288 Linyin Xin Road?

    China Eastern tour address/location

Hi spaceman or anyone else in the know --

Assuming we win the lottery, my friend in Pudong will join the China Eastern tour with me (she is already a +1 for me). Since it wouldn't make much sense for her to backtrack to Le Meridien in Puxi, is it possible for her to arrive separately?

If yes do you know the address or information that she could show a cab driver (hopefully in Chinese) to take her there, and we can meet up there at the facility.

    Is it near PVG airport?

You can PM me or just post it here. Thanks!

    TravellerOnline Nov 11, 2011 11:47 am

It's the Le Royal Meridien at 789 Nanjing Dong Lu(Quote from the hotel web site: "Please advise the driver that the drop off point is at the hotel entrance (intersection of Jiujiang Road and Guizhou Road"). Here is a link of the property. http://www.starwoodhotels.com/prefer...ropertyID=1945

Shanghai Eastern Flight Training Co. Ltd.(http://www.ceaftc.com/CeaftcWeb/Intr...nyInfo_En.aspx) is at 518 Fasai Road, Waigaoqiao Free Trade Zone, Shanghai 200131.

It's not near the Pudong Airport -- about 30 kilometers north of the airport.

    The Chinese address is
    上海东方飞行培训有限公司
    中国上海市浦东新区外高桥保税区法赛路518号

    Thank you!

    ckpeter Nov 11, 2011 5:57 pm

The Le Meridien is actually reasonably close to the Westin. It's basically 10 min walk from the Westin to Nanjing Rd, then 10 minutes walk on Nanjing Rd to the hotel. I would actually suggest walking it, as you get to see Nanjing Rd on your way.

I think I may just walk it rather then getting a cab from the Westin.
