SMD2 - November 3rd in Houston
Quite a while back I offered to try to organize something in Houston for the night of Wednesday, November 3rd as it seems the SMD2 doesn't have much planned, other than probably "drinks at the hotel bar" and a BBQ that I don't have info on, but welcome someone to post it on this thread.
A few years ago, I spent some time in Houston and remember a few fun places to go and kind of a fun outdoor bar scene. Houston, in my opinion, is less about the downtown area (though there are a lot of good places there) and more about the "Galleria" area of Westheimer/Richmond or whatever fancy name they have for it (Upper Kirby?). Seems you can park and walk around to a few different places, or very short drives.
I suggest we could meet at 7:30pm at a place called Mugsy's which would allow us to catch the last half hour of happy hour, sit outside in a low-key place and then eat there, or if you want or head across the street to Pappadeaux Seafood kitchen or something nearby, like Chuy's, even if it is a bit of a chain now. Everyone can kind of make their own decision. I will bring my yellow flyertalk tags with me and try to make them visible on the table or something so we can find each other.
So bottom line is, if you want to meet at Mugsy's I will be there from 7:30pm and if you think you might get there after 9:00pm, then send me a PM and I will give you my cell phone number.
If you know Houston really well, and/or, have better suggestions, post them below.
Please let me know if you are interested, I mean, if there are 30 of us I should call to see if there will be enough room!
Cheers, Powers

I'll find the info on the BBQ & post tonight or tomorrow for those who want to do that instead. Mugsy's or BBQ gives SMD2 folk 2 good locales for that evening. So many options, so little time
Cheers.

Cheers.

One thing to consider is that the Galleria area is roughly 30 miles from IAH. I admit to not having a lot of experience with Houston traffic (and all of those involved the southeastern part of Houston so may not be relevant) but my understanding is that it can be significant.

A group of us from The Penalty Box in the CO forum are getting together around 8PM at Pappasito's in Humble just north of IAH. Anyone else who is around on the 3rd is welcome as well.

BBQ info
My brother works at IAH and recommended this place:
http://nowherebuttexas.com/
It is located on FM1960 about six miles north of the Sheraton.
SkiAdcock was thinking of dining there on the evening of November 3rd.
But, Mackieman, I, and several other Flyertakers will be taking our BBQ Thursday that we usually do at Mann's BBQ in Austin on the road there between 1:30 PM and 2:30 PM. If you are in the area, but not attending any of the CO Do daytime events, anyone is welcomed to joined us. We should be highly visible. Mackieman is 6' 8" and I will be wearing a gray pith helmet (as usual).
I have to admit to being a bit confused about the Pappasito's thing on November 3rd, but if Mackieman says he's picking me up I guess I'd better be ready to go after all. LOL.
One thing is certain, however...drinkies at the Sheraton as a nightcap.

For those of us who are doing the CO Day, we'll miss the Thursday aft BBQ hence our idea for BBQ on Wed night. I'm probably planning on BBQ 'cuz hey it's TX & that's the thing to do when in TX. I'm thinking 7 or 7:30 though.
Cheers.
