I would suggest the usual. Day trip to Colonia. Etc.
This Do to me is about the food and the wine much more than the destination, but I know several previous attendees did a great job with creating tours and such. As cheap as taxis are in town, I highly recommend using the Subte instead to get around. Hotel wise, the Sheraton and the Marriott often have a good group staying in them as does the Hilton. I know these are big name places, but if you had enough people, try getting a group booking. There are also smaller hotels around town or anyone staying at least 3-4 nights I would recommend renting an apartment. The rates will be what a hotel will charge you for 1-2 nights for a full week. Try getting a group to go to the falls. A can't miss if you've never been. Or maybe a pre/post do trip to Mendoza or somewhere for more wine. Good luck with your planning. It can be quite the exhaustive task. Thank you for the suggestion. I am working on searching for a good and affordable hotel for us to stay in 2011. Of course, the main problem for us would be the hotel would require guarantee of revenue. In order to achieve the best hotel price I would strongly encourage all DO attendees to stay at the host hotel. |

So I would say this coming up DO, everyone must stay at same place.
UpgradedFirst, please take this in the spirit in which it is intended, which is informational...but based on your post history, not sure whether you have yet attended a DO? If that is the case, you may not have a solid understanding that these DOs are very different from the corporate meetings you would typically plan - because you're dealing with Flyertalkers! As Flyertalkers, we all have allegiances to our preferred hotels/airlines, either for the purpose of racking up additional status/miles/points - or using those we've earned. While some may be flexible about where they stay if you worked out a really great deal at a fabulous property, others will still prefer to pass up your deal because they want to stay at their preferred property. That's what FT is all about, after all! There are also a number of FTers who attend this DO that own a home or apartment in EZE and stay there - or rent it out to attendees if they cannot make it themselves. Speaking strictly for myself, as a speaker at many conferences I already am required to stay at dozens of hotels during the year that are not my preferred brand because they are the conference venue. Definitely not interested when traveling on my own dime or miles/points to being required to stay at a certain hotel to attend a DO. |

Um, that would eliminate any interest I (and some others) might have in attending this DO.

Certainly I do not want to discourage people from attending DO. Yes, I have been to DOs before. In order to leverage a good group rate and additional bonus, we must team together. Besides, it offers FTer a great place to socialize.
We would be happy to team together with you to get a group rate if you can. I agree, being in the same hotel does give us FTers better opportunity to hang together. |
+1
Interested in coming down again. CowDo VI was great!!

I think the idea is to try to obtain the best possible rate that can be had as a group and offer that as an option to FTers coming down for this gathering. Nothing is compulsory, I think the above was a case of quick posting and a mistaken use of the word must.
Im sure those interested in coming down to this Do are in the same spirit and we all appreciate the efforts and time that UpgradedFirst has kindly volunteered to this Community.... ^ |

On the one hand, I understand that the hotel wants some sort of assurance to offer a low rate, which I will guess is usually related to a certain volume of rooms to be occupied. But the fact that we are unable to offer a discounted rate in the first place directly conspires against the chance to have a greater occupancy..... So then, I ask the experts.... is there any way to solve this dilemma...? |

Please place me on the list, perhaps this year I will make it. Missed out on the last two by a week or so..

So.... anybody else interested in this Do...? |
I am interested in attending in 2011. I will be burning miles instead of earning them, so my participation will be dependent on getting an award J seat on CO/UA, and Diamond forcing 4-5 nights at the Hilton even though I'm not thrilled with that location.
